Hi all :)
Today was snuggy's first visit to the vet since adopting him on 5/7/15 (and I suspect since diagnosis per his records). And GREAT news - he is doing fantastic! She says his numbers are good for the plan we have come up with, and that he is generally very healthy. The only thing she did notice was that his intestines felt a bit inflamed so we are doing a fecal test to check for inflammatory bowel. Hopefully that comes back negative - but if not, we will tackle that battle together as well.
She remarked that it is highly unusual for a cat to be diagnosed so young and that in all her years as a vet she has never seen one so young. She stated she is going to do some research into young diagnosis because she wonders if there may be an underlying condition that is causing the diabetes- and if that is the case, then we may be able to tackle that and improve the diabetes. It means a lot to have a vet that is so committed and interested. I am grateful.

Snuggy is so much a normal little kitten. He is so playful and silly and oh so stubborn. When it comes to treats and food - he will defy all laws (physics, gravity, and mommy's) to get what he is after!
The vet said that he could stand to gain a little weight. He is "boney" in the lower spine and hips and so she suggested I increase his pm feeding to a can and a half (4.5oz from 3oz) while still maintaining the other usual feeding schedule for now.

And to top it all off, at the end of the visit (expecting a HUGE bill) I found out that this visit was complimentary from H.A.R
T (the shelter I adopted him from).

I am SO happy and relieved today with all this good news. I wish I could advocate for the other diabetic cats at the shelter to let potential adopters know that it is SO worth it. These cats are NORMAL cats who just have extra needs. They are playful and sweet and snuggly and multifaceted just like a non diabetic cat. And the diabetes is just a side note.

Hope you all are well - furry friends too!

Congrats, Snuggy, on your first trip to the vet. Happy that your Mamabean found a vet who is committed and interested. Sounds like more fuds tonight for you -- if you need to gain some weight, my Mama says you can have some of mine :cat:
