Snickers was diagnosed with diabetes in August 2006, and thanks to everything I learned from FDMB, today she is celebrating her 20th birthday! After her first six months of treatment with low carb canned food and BCP PZI, she went into remission for three years. Right now she needs about half a unit every day or two, and still hops onto the couch and gives me head butts and purrs (and drool--Pavlov's response knowing she'll get a treat!) for her tests twice a day.
I'm in the process of teaching a new pet sitter how to monitor her for our upcoming two-week vacation. I get a little nervous thinking about leaving her for that long, more so because of her age than diabetes, but we'll all manage
So for you newly diagnosed parents, please know that your cats can still live a long and happy life after their FD diagnosis >^,,^<
