I let Sneakers go to be with her sister Olive at 11:30 today. She was so ready. She meowed once last night and once this morning- the first real sounds she has 'spoken' in quite some time.

She did one last walk around the inside of the house and then a walk out in the front yard. I remembered my cell camera after she wobbled and stumbled and then did a little video for me to have. I gave her some frozen vanilla yogurt- she only ate half of it but she did have some.

Mom was able to take her lunch time and come with me to the vets office. I should have her ashes back next week. I left her wrapped in one of her fleece blankets that she used in the winter. I told them I was okay for it to be cremated with her.

Thank you all for your wonderful help and comfort and guidance while Sneakers and I took this trip together for the last 3 years. I know I will have medicines and supplies of Sneakers that can be used for other kitties. Thinking back she had to be almost 20 years old. She was 7 when I got her and I have had her for 13 years. She has lived a wonderful and full life, more so because of this board.

((((((((HEATHER))))))))

I saw that you had posted from my phone alert and came running to give you both a big sloppy hugs and kisses. Then I saw the candle burning...my heart fell through the floor. NO NO NO NOT SNEAKERS! I know they aren't immortal but some sure do seem that way and Sneaks was one of them. So many of those that I fell in love with when I first arrived so long ago are now with Muse, Musette and Onyx playing at the Bridge. The tiny loving family that once welcomed Musette and I with open arms and taught me to dance with a sugarcat are now all gone. Musette, Buddy, Klinger, Jeddie, Gandalf and now Sneakers all together but no longer with us.

I'm so sorry my dearest friend. You two were and still are quite a pair. Because while her body failed her, her spirit is still as bright as ever. Please don't be a stranger around here, you are sorely missed by at least me. And should I ever find myself with an acro you better believe I'm hunting you down to help.

Fly Free Sneakers and use those new wings_cat to soar right back where you belong in your momma's heart.

Just tears,
Mel, and The Fur Gang

I still need to get you to help me do that phone thing so I can get posts...

I still plan on lurking. Catching up with Autumn on your other post. She's had a ride. Hopefully something will show up why she still is acting troublesome and not going OTJ like all the others.

Oh Heather, I'm SO SO sorry it was Sneak's time to cross but what an amazingly wonderful life of love you shared together.

Soar high on your beautiful Angel wings sweet Sneakers...landing right back in Mama's broken heart.

Another big huge hug,

Easy on the phone thingy....Download Chrome from your app store, log in just like you do from computer...just have to sometimes "pinch and stretch" the screen so you can read it without 4 pairs of reading glasses and a magnifying glass lol. Otherwise its all the same except with a touch screen keyboard.
The spreadsheets were the nightmare to find an app for so I could keep them current.

Mel

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your beloved Sneakers. Hugs and kisses from a newbie.

Aw Heather...

So glad that Sneakers had such a caring momma bean who loved her enough to know when to let her go to the Rainbow Bridge to dance and chase Butterflies with all the others that have gone ahead.

Wow, 20 years... I have never had a cat live that long.

I wish you peace in comfort as you stroll through memories of her.

Hugs and headbutts...

Robin

You don't know me, Heather, but I'm so very sorry that you lost your beloved Sneakers. She's free of all pain and watching you from the Bridge now, I'm sure. My GAs Casey-cat and Jibbit surely welcomed her with head-butts and purrs. *hugs*

For those of you who don't know Heather and Sneakers I would like to give you a little background.

You here are getting the benefits of their legacy. Heather and Sneakers (GA), Vicky and Gandolph (GA), Sheila Beau & Jeddie (GA), Marcy and Klinger (GA) and Marci & Buddy (GA) are who you have to thank that you have me to hold your hands and paws through this journey. I'm here because I'm paying it forward for the help they gave me when I was right where you are now. Maxwell spoiled me rotten because he broke so quickly, then came Musette...that little girl didn't have a clue how to be a good sugarcat, she changed all the rules. She didn't follow any protocol at all. It was these folks that welcomed me to their corner of this world, sat me down and taught me to fly by the seat of my pants. That all the rules, tests and protocol don't do you a lick of good if your cat doesn't dance to them, and you have to learn to hear the music they are playing and step to that. To think outside the box, to try things that aren't strictly protocol because they just might work and they might not, but here are the pros and cons of every action, these are the risks you take if you do this or that, but you ultimately decide because she is your girl and you hold the syringe.

For that alone I will be forever grateful and right now my heart is as shattered as Heather's because I came to love Sneakers like she was my own kitty, and because for me this is the end of a era. My first family on the Levemir ISG are all now at the Bridge. But I hope through me and ultimately through you all the legacy they gave me will continue long after Autumn, Cassanova and Maxwell join the party at the Bridge. For this is exactly what makes this board a magical place to be, because each generation pays it forward to the next.

Thank you all for sending me your thoughts. After Sneakers was DX with Acromelogy and I started school I only lurked on FDMB occasionally rather than every day.

This is the one thing I truly love about the site- you can come and go. Like Mel said- the legacy of those kitties who have 'been' on this site will live on as their different kind of kitti-ness and diabetes are the tools and methods that teach the next generation.

Im so very sorry for your loss. I know that there are no words that can make the pain go away but I just wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.
