Hello and greetings everybody!

I have a lantus question:

Sneakers is about 1/2 way through her last Lev pen and it is past time to move her up (acro kitty) but her new pack won't be in until August, first full week of :o .

So... I was holding off on increasing, checking cl for possible sources and got a bright idea  I have a diabetic friend who lives in apartment housing and called him to check around to see if anyone had any lev they could sell me. I just bought the other one but didn't realize it would TAKE SO LONG to get here and I couldn't afford to buy another 5pk from the pharmacy here. Great news, he just picked up his new order of insulin and had 3 'long-lasting' pens left from last month- would I care for them? It is Lantus, but one long lasting insulin verses another- for a short time would it matter?

Unless someone tells me it will vastly effect Sneakers I will be using the lantus pen on her and then switch to the lev once the pen is used up. I know there is sting factor but I feel that is a small price to pay when it seems like she could go a week or two without insulin otherwise.

This will probably blow tight regulation out of the water but having her covered with insulin means I can up her dose again as planned.

Thanks!

Found a lev pen for Sneakers, no switch needed.

Re: Sneakers 7-11

Lantus and Lev are different pharmacologically. As a result, there's an effect on the insulin depot. There's no way to know what the results of switching back and forth will be.

Have you tried calling around to pharmacies, Costco, Sam's Club, or local hospitals with outpatient pharmacies to see if you could purchase a single pen? (You don't need to be a member of Costco or Sam's Club to use the pharmacy.) Some people have also been able to purchase a pen off of Craig's List.

Hi Heather -

Any chance there's someone closer to you that posts on the board that may have a pen you can buy? I'd hate to see you "jump ship" after all the progress you've already made - even if it is just for a short time. Maybe a post in Health to find someone? Wish I was close enough to help!

I'm with you - I REALLY wish you could buy the individual pens! It's like test strips. I had to go to Walmart to buy some, as I didn't get my order in early enough to get the ones from ADW in time - and I HAD to test! They cost almost TWICE as much at Walmart! Ugh!!!

Speaking of which... has anyone bought strips on Amazon and had a problem with them being what they said they would be? I've seen them even cheaper there, but I'm a little guarded when it comes to trusting things there....

I finally put those darn test strips on auto order  .

Far cheaper than Wally world by far. i only cross those doors for syringes and plants now.
