Well, Sneakers has been trucking right along, enjoying more yellows than pinks and has more AM yellow pre-shot numbers than pinks, so I can't complain. On Monday she was chill'n out while my niece and (highly active 4yr old) nephew were here and an early afternoon thunderstorm and still didn't have stress numbers that I could see. And I even got a blue! I thought it was odd so tried again on the other ear and got a lower blue # still :-D . Benjamin helped me by watching.

It's been 6 cycles since her fur shot so definitely time to up her dose to 6.5 tonight and there has been no reds in the last 2 weeks and her pinks have all been 371 and under. Her pen has been going down faster this time than last time- she spent a lot of time in the lower units before working up.

Vet appt tomorrow to draw for the acro/IAA tests. Happy its getting done, scared a little about the diagnosis. She has gained weight in the last two months since her last appt. I seriously doubt she is 8 lbs now  .

Great on the numbers... wish Grayson was there already. Wow on the dose... and yes, it does go much faster when you're shooting +/- 6 units. That last vial of ProZinc I used was gone in no time (6u TID). Had to borrow some from Kim until I got back from my trip and did the change!

Good luck on the tests. I know exactly how you feel. Don't be surprised with the resistance results... when we're using such high doses, it's kind of a no-brainer to see that result. The Acro? I'll be curious to see what you find out, but know that you're not alone going through this. And for me, it's much better to know what I'm dealing with than to just have on the rose-colored glasses. Hope for the best, but prepare yourself just in case it comes back positive. Then you get to ride another whole roller coaster! Wishing you & Sneakers the best possible results!

I think we will all be anxious to hear the results. When will you know?

6.5u - no wonder you are using up insulin faster. I don't think I have shot more than about 1.25u of lev. I did get up to 7u of vetsulin for Beau, but that was sid.

Sometimes i think it's too high. But except for those blues around 3.25 her numbers do consistently drop the higher the dose goes.

Good news is no ketones in over a month :-D :-D :-D .

He will draw Friday and send it, they do one test only on Wednesdays- acro, the other- IAA- there was no set schedule listed online. I figure two weeks maybe. Lu went through this with Grayson so I guess I need to ask her about it.

I received Klinger's Igf-1 results the Friday (same week they ran the test) and the IAA results the following week.
Yay for no ketones in over a month! :-D

Grayson's was drawn on Monday, spun, frozen and FED EXed overnight. The IAA (insulin resistance) test is run on Wednesdays. We had those results Friday morning of the same week. IGF-1 (Acro) later the same afternoon.

Seemed like one of the longest weeks!

Thnking of you & Sneakers today.... knowing how your stomach is probably in knots. I'm all about knowing the truth, and "brutal honesty", so I think it's good we test & know - but I also know the denial I faced w/ results. Lead me to be a little more apprehensive.

We've always said, this dance is all about knowing the numbers and patterns. This is just a new dance. Don't fret - there's a learning curve for all of us, and know that Sneakers will be the same amazing baby regardless of what the tests show. And you'll deal with anything you need to as it comes up.

Good luck!

She had her test this morning. The vet was going to spin and freeze it and send it off Monday, I do believe it goes overnight. So maybe by the end of next week or the beginning of the next i'll get the results.

He did ask me what my plans were if they came back positive. There really isn't anything I can do in the middle of Arkansas but just go for the knowledge right now. Chemo is the only treatment for acro and there is no way I can cover that at all.

She is up to 9.8 so she gained 1.8lb over the last 2 months. He got enough blood to do the two tests plus a full panel again so he can check if her BUN is elevated still (was 33 last test). That test result will be in Monday.

Question- she has had difficulty jumping up onto things and i wondered if it was neuropathy for being diabetic for so long or just arthritis because she's 16 and getting old. He figured it would be arthritis and suggested cosequin for it. I remember hearing about it and will do a search to see if it is okay for her take.

Thanks for keeping an eye on us.

I would ask the question about arthritis and cosequin in a separate post and/or on health to get mor eeyes on it. I have no experience with either - at least not at all recent (had a cat 25+ years ago with arthritis and I found keeping her warm at night under the covers helped, but what did we know back then anyway?).

Sneakers doesn't love being under the covers- not unless I'm making the bed and she is the monster going after the giant hands  .

Currently she goes for the coolest place in the house- tile floor, wood floor, this winter she didn't even get on the bed when i had my electric blanket on.

Klinger used Cosequin for a little bit, but after a few weeks he stopped eating his food. I didn't notice a change while he was on it either. We recently tried Duralactin with L-lysine in the paste form. Klinger started jumping up on the bed again. :-D It's also a hit or miss when he wants to eat it, but it seems to have a positive effect on his joints.

Re: Sneakers 6-7- a 202 PMPS!

Sneakers gave me a 202 PM pre shot number :o

Tested again and got a 201 so I'd say it was a good #. Still shot the full dose. Will check through the night. 3am will be around her normal nadir.

Read on another post about parmesian cheese helping a picky eater so have tried it with Sneakers and she is absolutely loving it! No wasted food like before. And I found some beef freeze dried treats for pokes time.

Nope, no blues- in fact she climbed all night  .

And she had food before I got her PMps this afternoon (possibly the AM ps this morning as well. House guest was up at 5:20 and Sneakers went to beg for breakfast. When I got up at 5:30 she was eating already  .)

Naughty little Sneakers! Begging from an unsuspecting house guest!!! Sounds like something MY guys would do!!!

Maybe he's just missing the outings with his friends from PZI at IHOP! cat(2)_steam

Lots of people sing the praises of Cosequin for arthritic conditions in their pets. It's probably one of the most commonly used supplements and has been shown to reduce the progression of osteoarthritis. I have a lab that I've been giving it to for almost 15 years!

Technically, glucosamine is a type of sugar and there used to be concerns that it could affect insulin resistance and raise blood sugars. It has since been deemed very safe for diabetics.

On a side note, Boo has a history of UTI's andI give him Cosequin every day. A urologist told me that he prescribed glucosamine for people with chronic cystitis. He said these specific compounds seem to protect the lining of the bladder as well as promote urinary tract health. We haven't had a UTI since we've been using it and haven't had any changes or effects with his diabetes!

My house guest didn't feed Sneakers, she just had some unused food left on her plate she realized was there and ate it  . They don't feed my pet, I don't feed theirs.

She always leaves a half moon of food, no matter how much or little I give her, at the top edge of the plate and that is what she was munching on. The only time it is gone is when I am at work and she eats it all by the time I am home again. Yesterday we left at 2 and I put out 2 oz of chicken... we get home at 5:15 and she is munching on the chicken :o no wonder her PM #'s was wonky.

Otherwise I think she had been surfing in the 200 range for the last two days.

Thanks for info on the Cosequin it is very helpful.
