Sneakers is doing pretty good- I'm turning into a yellow snob over here as she has been giving me blues mostly for the last few weeks. Flat as a pancake with varience of 50-75 points from PS to nadir. For an acro cat that is pretty good. Her friends Tigger and Grayson are heading down the scale to OTJ and I'm just happy she's low dose (for and acro) and doing well with few blips on the screen. I've got her booklet to update her SS today sometime.

She is well regulated and eating well, although she does tend to drop her food needs without warning  Last weekend she was eating 4 oz a day nailbite_smile but come Tuesday she was back up to 6 oz and Wednesday she was up to 8oz and her normal 6-8 oz. no ketones as I was able to check on Sunday- she just wasn't hungry I guess :?

I've decided to shave my girl for the summer- or at least her sides and tummy. This is to keep her cooler during the day and provide an easy target for the pet sitter to shoot and make sure the shot goes in. She doesn't care much for the idea- I get about 3 swipes with the shaver and she gets up and gives me a dirty look- so I give her FD shrimpies and she forgives me. She's about half done and looks like she has mange   . I also have a cool mat I bought last year but didn't have a chance to try- i will roll it out and see if it actually works.

Pet-sitter- I'm looking for a stay-in but I do have someone who will come in who will test/shoot/feed- he was the one who stayed over during the Christmas break and he did well. Sneakers REALLY appreciated me being back as he is a little heavy handed with the testing  - but she knows him and did okay with him. I would just prefer someone in-house to keep up with the food. But that's me, hands-on mommy :-D .

Great report on Sneakers! Glad she is stable and settled. That makes it easier for the pet sitter.

Don't you have a timer feeder that could be left if the sitter isn't staying there?

I do know what you mean about the sitter being there. I used to work FT. How did my cats manage without me there all day?! Still, Cami and Beau have current issues that seem to need someone here, at least for hours at a time and not a quick 30 mins to just set down food and give meds. My sisters are coming from out of state to care for my cats while I am gone. One is coming from CT (to IL) and the other from MI. Crazy. But this is a "family odyssey" as my younger sister puts it. I am traveling companion to our mother to go back to OR and visit friends. She wants to drive half of the distance... anyway, one sister is here for the first 5-6 days and the other for the second 5-6 days. And I am STILL a nervous wreck about it (leaving my cats in someone else's care)! So, I don't know that anything less than cancelling all plans and never leaving the house again, except to buy cat food, would make us happy.

I do have a feeder but haven't used it since last summer when Sneakers stopped eating so much and not wanting to eat the ice cubes that thawed out naturally  . So I thaw it it the microwave, mush it well in water to make it soupy, garnish with parm cheese and then she'll eat it

Since I'm not using it I was going to take it with us and give it to Claudia (and acro kitty Charlie) as I'll be stopping by Akron, OH to say hello on my way to VT and theirs broke a month or so ago.

If I could work from home a couple days a week I would be happy- but I can't- all my stuff in 'in house' so to speak (secretary to 5 faculty).

I'm just lucky all of Sneakers meds can be blended in her food or shot with a syringe. Having to give sub-q fluids would be troublesome to say the least. Although I do have a good set-up for it if needed. After eating she likes to lay down on her cushion by the fridge and I have shelves over that that i could hang a bag on.

Mom usually takes care of Sneakers but she will be traveling with me, so that is a no-go. I, too, am her traveling companion. :-D

You coming up I-71 or I-77? ie, through Columbus, OH or through/near Cambridge, OH and about what time? Might be able to briefly intersect for coffee, or something.

Geeze, that's a long trip. Are you driving? (sounds like it). That's longer than what we are doing - well, the driving portion, from Denver to Eugene, OR.

I have to put Parmesan cheese on Beau's food now. He really isn't eating very much. They sure love it, don't they?

You know, with subQ fluids, I think if you think it through and have a good set up you can get them to accept it. Just like BG testing. A treat, or two, and they learn there is a reward. The hardest thing is getting them to sit still - if they are the type of cat that doesn't like to be confined. Jeddie was easy, Beau is easy, but the other tree I have done weren't so easy. Cami is getting easy because I am giving treats. She hates being "held down, but I discovered that putting a towel around her rump, like snugging it against her, keeps her in place. Usually just long enough. Also, warm the fluids up when it is below about 75 degrees. I hope you never have to do it though.

BJM- I'll check the directions when I get to work- I know we get to Akron about lunchtime or 5 hours after leaving Louisville and I do think Columbus was on the way there. A pit stop for snacks and a chance to gas up the car will be good.

Sheila- Sneakers LOVES to just sit there, so no problem in that area  , and if I rub her head and ears she'd like it even more  :-D . I think we could handle it but she seems pretty healthy other than her FD and tumor. Although I think she lost another tooth... :? I can't be sure, have to wait until she yawns or something. While she doesn't mind a heavy rub against the tooth line opening her mouth will require more than one person as that is invading her PERSONAL space... you know exactly what I mean

I wish you all safe travels. It's so cool, Heather, that you will get to meet Claudia and Charlie. I've been fortunate to meet MommaofMuse, Rob and Harley, Sue and Oliver, and Lu-Ann and Grayson. It is always so cool to meet people from the board in "real life."

Hey, Sheila, I see you are traveling through Denver. It would be wonderful to meet you in person too. Let me know if that's something that could be worked out with your schedule. No pressure. :-D

I hope you get a chance to meet BJ as well as Claudia. It's always fun to meet other FDMB members. I have met four other members, one as far away as Seattle (then I met her again here in Chicago) and I used to be in close email contact with 3-4 more. And I have spoken on the phone to Venita a few times and one other member. The best way to meet folks is to adopt an out of state DCIN kitty, but not so far away they have to fly them instead of car transport, lol.

From Louisville, KY, its a relatively straight shot up I-71 through Cincinnati, Columbus, Mansfield, and Ashland, then hitting I-76 to head east to Akron (where I went to graduate school!).

Its about 3 1/2 hours between the centers of Louisville and Columbus, plus pit stops.

I'm trying to get BJ in the works :-D I just need a closer address for the TomTom.

Poor mom is going to thing she is meeting a whole gaggle of people for the whole trip :? :-D
And we all have something in common- an FD kitty.

If Arkansas wasn't so FD free (most likely NOT  ) I'd meet more people and sugar kitties.

I have a med apt that may be over just when you'll be coming through Columbus, but let's be optimistic!

1739 Olentangy River Rd, Columbus, OH 43212 is a Barnes and Noble near where I'll be for my for my doc apt.
