Hello all!

Sneakers has been in a sea of pinks and yellows for the last week and a half with only a few reds sprinkled in for good measure. I stayed so long at 4.25 because I did a two fur shots and she got into my cream cheese once so I wanted that to settle into some true numbers.

I have upped her dose to 4.5u to see if that will get her some lower numbers although she had some pretty good numbers in the 3.5/4u range and I'd like to get back to those numbers- no blue since she was getting 4u :-| .

Ketones have continued to be negative, she is gradually eating less- down to around 10 oz per day instead of her normal 13-15. At least it isn't a total stop like last time. 6 is FF, 4 is raw diet.

The p's:
Peeing... about the same I think- still a lot. I have the breeze system now so I don't have clumps to judge by, but I change out the pads every two days or so.
Poop- okay. She still has constipation, so she takes her powder for that twice a day- if I miss one i can tell.
Preening- off and on. I've noticed her grooming more... which leads to more hairballs  . She totally will not eat the Salmon feast right now- absolutely refuses. I got chopped grill feast, 2%, to feed and she is okay with that.

You might see more initial movement to blues after a dose increase of .5u instead of .25u. The "sudden" extra brings down the numbers, but then settles out. She looks like she still needs more insulin. Eventually, she should hold the lower numbers.

What are you giving for constipation? Anything that could be effecting her numbers? Do you add any water to her food? That might help. I add a little less than half a can of water to one can of food. Maybe start with a little less and work up. My food is pretty soupy.

Mirilax is my powder of choice as the board said it wouldn't effect numbers. 1/8tsp in the morning and in the evening.

And she does get plenty of water. I mix about half and half and she actually refuses to eat it if it doesn't have enough water in it and goes from soupy to just wet  .

Since she had been getting some blues I was advised that it might be better to slow her changes so i don't send her too low while I am at work. I have a vet appt on the 4th and hope to be able to get the acromelogy tests done to see if she might be insulin resistant. She was going ever higher on PZI, too, so that has been a question in the back of my mind.

Thanks for replying, I know you are worried over Jeddie. I keep reading the updated posts.

Yeah, that acro and IR tests would be a good idea - know it has been mentioned and debated for her before. They are two different tests, btw, but I can't remember what the IR test is called right now. IAA maybe? Insulin auto antibodies, or something like that.

Certainly when the dose is close to being right, slowing down the dose increases is good, but I don't think she is in danger of going low all of a sudden. As the dose increases, a 10-15% increase is a bigger amount.

The caveat to the above is that an acro cat's insulin needs can fluctuate because of fluctuations in the circulating hormone IGF-1.

Here is good information on the pet diabetes wikia site: http://petdiabetes.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page under "complications".

Thanks! I'll take a look.

I'm wondering if this is why the is still peeing lots but her food intake is slowly decreasing.
