Well, Teresa- found another dead mouse today- why she only eats the front half is anybody's guess. But that may be why she didn't eat her snack I set out. As the mouse was still very much wet- I don't think her 407 can be considered a fasting bg and 45 minutes later she was a 413.
Diagnosed just before Thanksgiving 2011, started Monday after on Humulin, 4u. Have since switched to PZI- vet said 3u as the potency of the old bottle might have lessened and to creep it back up to 4u.
In my own research I found the Feline Diabetes website but not the forum- that came later.
I switched her food to canned about 5 days before she started her insulin. The vet kept her for 3 days and was feeding her dry food after my cans ran out. Looking at the itemized bill I don't think he did curves, just tested at feeding which was a really high number
Since switching to PZI i wanted to get a curve and see if she really should be at 3u. Sue & Oliver suggested she might be overdosed and rebounding with the highs and lows in such a short time. So I am now on the start low, go slow approach. I will do another curve this weekend as that is the only time i am home for any length of time.
I am testing for ketones now- I have the strips rather than a meter. First test was yesterday and I got a color between the negative and a trace but when I asked someone said PZI sometimes does that. Will continue testing.
Food-
she is mostly on the Recipe, more cooked than raw but everything else is the same, frozen into 1 ounce cubes. I have bought some fancy feast classics and Milo's Kitchen- there were no grains listed in the ingredients. I couldn't find freeze-dried anything. Will go to petsmart next time. her feeding is a little low- but as she might be supplementing her chicken for mice that might be why. She caught and devoured birds before I knew she was diabetic- come home to feathers and claws and, I think, the breastbone. At least she leaves them in the kitchen where mopping is easy...
