Hello all!

Sneakers is doing okay for an 18 year old loner. She has her good days and her bad ones but most of them are good. She goes up and down in BG depending on tumor output but for the most part she is going slowly down in dose. Currently around 8u in dose, a slow climb. When she gives me a 50 or below I lower the dose and then slowly build it back up since I am gone for most of the AM cycle.

She seems to be getting pancreatitis episodes- not wanting to eat, throws up bile, wanting to eat but doesn't- but it is not diagnosed beyond what I see. I did manage to get some liquid pepcid so I can give her something without having to entice her to eat a pill when she doesn't feel like eating it.

I took out the bed box springs and am just on the mattress and she is now sleeping with me from about midnight on but she has to stay on the fridge to get her late night munchies and then she wants to be with me when I wake up and she can get her early morning munchies.

Until I get my email address hooked up again I won't get any messages I'll try to get on at least once a week during school.

Hey Heather. Glad Sneakers in doing ok. She doesn't have hyperthyroid does she? That can be a reason for vomiting bile. Does the pepcid help? It's interesting that her dose have been coming down. Was she tested for IIA? Wonder if the lowering dose is because she is less insulin resistant now that her BG has been under regulation for so long.

These guys can have so many things going on it's hard to sort out isn't it.

Hope school is going well.

She was negative for IAA but positive for acro which is why her dose is coming down- it isn't sending out as many GH-1 hormones. She doesn't look anything like the other acro cats on FB- she is only 10 lbs while all the others are 15 and up. Grayson runs around 23+ and so do most of the others.

I've tested for hyperthyroid in the past but she was negative for it, plus she only vomits when she goes too long without eating. It isn't a common occurrence at all.

I tell people she is 18, has a brain tumor and diabetes- she gets what she wants- LOL. I've talked mom into coming over and testing/shooting her on the nights that i have school.

I hear you on "she gets what she wants". Beau is at that stage, I'm afraid. Right now all he will eat is chunky gravy canned food mixed with baby food. And raw, but I can't afford that on a regular basis, although I will try with him. Cami tries to eat any "special" food I give Beau, but she is huge! I am sure she is 12 lbs (she was 6 lbs a year ago).

Good thing your mom can help out.

Sneakers continues to amaze with her response to her tumor, and how well she does overall, despite having a few years "under her collar" than most of our FD and acro kitties. Every day we have them is a blessing, and I agree - she gets what she wants! (G would like to get what he wants too, but he's not even 9 yet - I'm still in charge!) And though he'd been in the low 20s, he was just weighed about 2 weeks ago, and he's up to 24.6. Regardless of their sizes and ages, G has a special place in his heart for his gray girl! ;-)

She had her yearly today- and has gained 1lb- now 9.3 lb instead of 8.3. Vettie bean said to continue what I was doing as it seems to be working- LOL. She gets fomitide every other day when she seems to not eat but want to eat- but not every day.

She is getting very messy when eating- has to step in it at least once a meal- front or back paw, doesn't really matter. When it is the back paw she tips the bowl over and sends the food sloshing down the freezer. And at night she then comes to bed and tracks food everywhere. Yesterday it was also poop.

She does not like me to clean her feet but is now resigned to it, gives me hisses but no bites.

I need to update her SS but for the last few weeks to a month she has been perfect- low to mid PS in 200's and going as low as 150 or even lower at times during the cycle. Once or twice she hits the double digits. Pinks are rare and usually because of a bounce or recent food intake. She is steady at 8u.

I hear you on the stepping in food issue. Beau does that. I think he can't see very well. And he'll try and look up at me as I move the bowl from counter to floor and fall over. Sigh. And the poop thing.... with mine it's litter stuck to their feet - especially Beau. I put plastic dinner plates under their food bowls. They have a bit of a rim on them so that catches the worst of it if they get spilled, but usually it's me kicking the bowl across the floor....

How are you cleaning her feet/ I had to do that with Jeddie and he hated it. Venita sent me a package of "Cat Wipes" (that's the actual name, made by Petkin). They are supposed to be safe and non-toxic and worked pretty well. They come in a container like baby wipes, so easy to use. I use them now to clean Cami's butt. She is so big it's hard for her to clean herself and with long fur, getting poop stuck back there is an issue.

What we won't do for them, right?

currently I use a washcloth and some water to clean her feet- I usually try warm water and she isn't so fussy- but acro's are notorious for not licking their feet handled.

But does any cat? LOL

Might consider a sanitary trim where you shorten the fur most like to get gook.

The small trimmers work OK for this.

I do have trimmers that I use to keep her sides/tummy naked during the summer to help her stay cool. She gets a lot of shrimpies when we get those out- LOL.

I did trim some of the fur. That was not met with much acceptance (the process). Cami is very butt sensitive, unlike Jeddie who I could turn upside down in one arm (barely because he was so big) and would let me clean for about 90 seconds before saying "enough!"

Yeah, out of all the cats I have had I think only one allowed me to touch their feet long enough for a trim. They all act like you are going to cut off their toes, not their claws. Maybe to them it's the same thing.

Beau stepped in some diarrhea last night and was extremely upset at having his foot cleaned with washcloth and water. Poor guy. He was so mad that when I set him on the floor he attacked the first thing his paws touched, which was the carpeting.

He might've disliked being stood in a couple inches of warm water more! And then proceeded to dash around the place, leaving a trail of wet poo.
