I took Smokie to the ER clinic because of diarrhea.
She is 17 years old and a diet controlled diabetic with CRI.

The Vet says she has Colitis or IBD but couldn't rule out other causes. I asked for stool culture but they don't do them there. Vet said i didn't need to do stool culture anyhow.
The stool exam they did was neg. Vet said her colon was full of the watery diarrhea.

I didn't know what to do.
He said Smokie needed something to help her and unless i could get two doses of medication down her twice a day he needed to give her an injection of Depo Medrol for the irritation in her colon. I did not know if i could get the medication down her twice a day. I have been trying for years to medicate her orally.
So he gave her the Depo Medrol.

I can get Smokie to take medication in Tuna Juice if the medication is not bitter.
I can give her subQ injections in the scruff of the neck like i did with the insulin.

She just took Pepcid Ac in tuna juice.

Is there anything i could give her that is not bitter tasting?
What could i give her to help.

Before i took her to the Vet she seemed to feel pretty good.(watching birds and dozing)
Now she is hiding under the bed a lot.

She is still eating ok and not vomiting.
Should i be giving pain medicines?
Should i keep giving the Pepcid AC(vet didn't suggest this)

Vet said she had mild blood tinged nasal discharge and moderate hemorrhage/irritation present in the back of the throat.

Does anyone know what i should do next?
What could i give her? She gets very angry when i try to give oral meds.

Thank you

How much pepcid are you giving? The daily max is 5mg or 1/4 tab BID of the 10mg regular strength.
I give Shadoe pepcid almost daily, and she gets relief from it.

Ask your vet about injectable meds as they can be obtained.

I haven't been able to get a capsule down her but i continue to try.
I gave smokie 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet. She took it in tuna juice.
Do they have something for Colitis that is injectable sub-Q? I could give that.
Thanks you all.

what about pill pockets or maybe something sticky like laughing cow cheese?
Shadoe hates being pilled but I usually mix crushed pill pieces with cheese and it's too sticky for her to wiggle back out.

I know you can get injectible pepcid(famotidine) and bupe; I would ask the vet what's available.

Good idea about the injectable pepcid, Gayle. I am going to see if i can get some and have it
on hand if Smokie won't take the other sometime. She has felt better since she took the pepcid in tuna juice this morning.

Smokie has not had a BM all day. Not even diarrhea. Is this ok?
My Vet's office is closed all week so it will be monday before i can see him and find out what i can do.

Hi Mary Jo:

I couldn't respond to your email, I don't know how to use the features yet. Sampson went blind last night I put out a post so you can read it. Thanks so much for your thoughts of us. I am just sick about this.
