Smokey seems very interested in food but when it comes to eating it he just licks all the gravy out of it and leaves the food chunks. I've tried 15 different kinds of food now , catnip, parmesan cheese and tuna.

Numbers have been seeming okay though and I'm thinking that him licking the gravy is helping to make sure he doesnt get dehydrated

Hi Julie. Does he seem to be in pain? Meatloafing? How’s the LB? Could he be constipated; that can make them nauseous.

Sometimes they get bored with the same texture. If you are feeding pate food try minced or shredded. Also, if you are giving gravy that is very high carbs. But for now you need him to eat.

Here is a bunch of suggestions on how to get a cat to eat.

He has been sitting a little weird like that sometimes .. but not with chin on the ground.. most of the time hes laying normally in bed hah . He was at the vet Tuesday and has a double ear infection , trace ketones and had "gurggly gut" while we were there .

Yes I know its high in carbs but he wont eat anything else and I need him to eat to give insulin and I figured the gravy helps with hydration at this point too . I've tried every texture and brand they make at this point. :arghh:

Sounds like he could be in some pain from the ear infections. Was he eating well before?

If you haven’t all ready, try some of the things in the link I provided. When Bubba goes off his feed, I can almost always count of him eating all meat baby food. I get Beechnut brand as there is no corn powder in it. Another sure thing is to sprinkle flortiflora on top of the food. That stuff has animal enzymes in it and it attracts kitties like crack LOL

With an infection, and not eating well and higher numbers , it’s the perfect storm for DKA. And since he had trace ketones at the vets, it’s a real concern.

If you aren’t all ready, start adding water to his food to help keep the ketones flushed . And keep testing him once a day for ketones to make sure they aren’t rising. It can get out of hand very fast.

If you are giving Tresaderm for his ear infections, there is steroids in it and can raise the BGs while using it.
