Skip a dose?

My cat was supposed to get her food at 6pm and 6:30 she gets insulin. I've been at the doctor all day with my son and we ended up at the emergency room because of a broken bone. I picked him up from school at 11 am and went straight to the doctor...Anyway, the cats are already 30 minutes past their feeding time, there is no sign of us getting out of here. They were just supposed to check that it is set properly but that was hours ago. After this, we need to pick up my son's pain meds before heading home.

Back on topic, Cricket usually has high numbers. I don't feel right skipping a dose but I can't switch her 12 hour dosing time because I work. Would it be better to giver her a small dose whenever I get home or just wait until the morning?

If you can't change her dose time, it's best to skip and get back on schedule tomorrow

Hope your son is OK!! Good thing about being a kid....they heal faster than us old folks!!

Thank you. We just got home...2 hours late. The cats were looking at me like I was trying to starve them.

Turns out my son broke his finger in such a special way that he will need to see a hand surgeon on Monday or as soon as possible. It's been a long day.

Sorry to hear about your son. I'm amazed most kids (me included) make it to adulthood!

Chris was correct - skip the dose. It is the safe way to deal with delayed dose situations. Leo gets real high doses because of Acromegaly. His case is special. If I miss his dose (let's say 8 units) and it's 1 hour late, then I might give him 4 or 5 units.

Cricket's numbers look good. You may want to do some testing during +6hrs whenever you get the opportunity. Even if it is only weekends. That way you can measure effectiveness of the insulin dose.
