My Spence lost quite a bit of weight when he was suffering from pancreatitis a few months ago. He is definitely feeling better and has a good appetite but he hasn't exactly gained much of that weight back.

Any tips? Right now he eats friskies, 1 can-1 can and half a day. He hates that nurti-cat gel supplement stuff. He literally gags when he even smells the stuff. He feel so thin, it's just worrying. We check his BS monthly since he has been in remission and it is still in remission.

Any tips??

Thank you!

Have you read www.catinfo.org? The website has excellent feline nutrition info and suggestions -- and notes that some of the terrific low carb canned food great for diabetics may not have enough calories for ALL cats.

I personally found that 2 of my 5 cats lost too much weight when we went to 100% Wellness canned chicken and turkey foods.

So now I am giving the two underweight kitties some EVO dry food -- I tried just using some higher carb / higher calorie canned food, but it drove my diabetic cats, Tiggy and Rusty, crazy -- to smell that gravy Fancy Feast and not get any. They would like to have the EVO dry, but are content with getting a few as a treat. (the underweight civilians get the dry food while locked in the bathroom)

Maybe just offer Spence more Friskies? Mugsy and other here seem to east 2-3 cans a day.

We do offer him more but on average he eats at most a can and half.

We used to feed with evo grainless as well as wet but it's been harder to find nearby.

Thanks everyone.

Some people have had luck sprinkeling Forta Flora on their cats food, or shaved bonito tuna, or parmesan cheese.

When Yittle was starving on us (while we regulated his blood sugar) I took to stirring in small portions of olive oil or bacon fat into his food - about 1/2 tsp per 1/2 can of food? Of course he didn't have stomach issues then so it might not be the best idea if you're needing to go low fat. The other thing I did was cook him human food - usually boneless skinless chicken thighs cooked in olive oil or bacon fat with a sprinkle of salt. I'd dice them up fine and after he was done eating all the cat food he "wanted" I'd whip out the tub of cooked chicken from the fridge and pretend to eat a bite. Then he'd want some, so I'd keep giving him "just one more" bite. I usually got at least an ounce or so down him that way.
