Sinbad is our 11 year old furbaby. He was diagnosed in April after losing a lot of weight and a reading of 381. Have been trying all summer to get his numbers down but they have stayed in the high 400's. He is in intensive care, fighting for his life. He is in a severe state of ketoacidosis. Blood sugars have stayed in the 500's all day yesterday and today even though he is not eating. He was on 4 units of Lantus with breakfast and dinner. It appears his cells are not accepting the insulin and even the doctor is getting frustrated. I don't think he is going to make it and I can't stop feeling that there was something I did wrong. I love my Ki-Ka and don't want him to suffer.

I am very sorry to read this and I hope that he pulls through. There are a few conditions that can cause insulin resistance and they can be treated! Please keep us updated, ok?? Hugs!

You said he was in the ER.... do you know what treatments that they are attempting to do? My kitty, Bob was also DKA and spent three days in emergency care. He came through it, but it was close. Don't give up.

I am really sorry Sinbad is ill.

When my Roy was sick, I kept feeling that I had done something wrong and kept berating myself for it. It was dreadful. Then I realized I had done absolutely nothing wrong and a weight of epic proportions lifted off my shoulders. I hope this realization comes to you, because it will make you stronger. Yup.

Sending prayers, positive thoughts and good mojo.

Kindest regards.

Sending healing prayers and keep fighting vines to Sinbad.
My kitty was very ill with DKA and spent 8 1/2 days in the hospital. Very slowly, day by day, he got better and better.
I hope the same for Sinbad. (((Hugs))) We're here with you.

Prayers for Sinbad and MamaBean - keep fighting little one....

PLEASE quit feeling like YOU did something wrong - you didn't cause this. In our area, almost all cats dx'd with diabetes are PTS by their owners. You've already done it RIGHT! I'm sorry it hasn't worked out so far. Don't beat yourself up, Sinbad needs you to be your wonderful loving self.

BIG loooong hug,

If it seems like he is resistent to insulin, maybe he is - discuss acromegaly, Cushings, and insulin autoantibodies with the vets. If one of those conditions is present, he may need very high doses just to get him down to a safe level.
