Simon has not been doing well these days. He continues to climb higher and higher and his dose grows larger and larger and now we are at a loss as to why. His surgery on his teeth kicked him back in to diabetes..that is all we know. He has no infections. He is eating well and is not throwing any ketones thank goodness, but he is high and does not seem to come down. The other day, he has a green number and I almost fell over! We bought a new bottle of insulin to see if that was it...but no improvement really.

I have been busy with my own health challenges and my dad's so have not been on in a while, but felt compelled to log in today (am at work) and throw it out there to see if anyone has any ideas what is going on with him. I have not updated his SS today since my computer was frozen this morning before work, but as you can see, 332 is what his number was.

Help! He was doing so well!

Hi Joyce,

I'm sorry to see Simon's numbers have risen. They are not bad. He is still responding to the insulin, dropping 50% or more at nadir. But I know it's discouraging considering where he was. I think I have asked this before - the vet sure cehcked with an xray to see that there were no pieces of tooth or anything left after the dental? That seems the most likely scenerio - that Simon is in pain or that there is an infection from the dental.

I am sorry that I have no brilliant ideas. I think you are doing a great job slowly raising the dose and monitoring.

Vet did not do an x-ray and I think that is what we will ask for next. He checked his blood for infection and found none.. :YMSIGH: We are baffled by his rise in BS but will keep soldiering on and hoping for another remission...although I am losing faith that it will happen a second time at this point. confused_cat
