Simmie's all over the map

Hi folks, Simmie is testing all over the map right now as I have been making adjustments to his insulin over the past few days. Just now was his highest in awhile, 347 (you can see his ss). Tomorrow I am supposed to get my first shipment of Tiki chicken in chicken broth so I am hesitant to increase his insulin quite yet...it has 0 carbs where the fancy feast classic is between 3-5 I think. Am I doing the right thing?

I was up all night with him as I increased his dose from 1 unit to 2 units so I am really beat so I am being over emotional. Crittermom, I am sympathetic - I want him to be happy but now I feel like I am jerking him around a lot. He doesn't seem to have that new bounce in his step he exhibited just a couple of days ago. :cry:

I do want to thank you all for the poking advise though. It's gone much better today. Thanks guys. I am not piercing the way I was...

I don't have experience with lantus, but from what I've read from others posts is that with lantus it takes some time for the body to adjust and to stay at a certain dose, not to chase the numbers. I noticed at first you were doing 4 units 2x a day which seems really high to me. Maybe start doing 1 unit 2 x a day for a week and see what that does. Hopefully someone with lantus experience will chime in.

Hi there, thank you so much. I did have him down to one unit but he started testing too high. And I think you are right about Lantus taking some time. I've gotten a lot of good advise from folks in the few weeks I've been on the site so I just have to calm down.

Yesterday's highs with the 1u was probably a failed reduction, which is wy I suggested going back up to 2u. At this point, I'd hold steady with the 2u for at least 3 days/6 cycles (unless he goes low again). The high number tonight might just be from New Dose Wonkiness (a totally technical term).
