He has gained weight (probably about a kilo) Do you think I should put him back up to one unit? We did originally have a hypo event at one. But I am ready for his numbers to be lower (ie not as terrified) He is looking very good lately and is hungry all the time. I think I need to regulate his food intake now. Was giving 2.5 to 3 cans, but I am thinking of getting to below 2.5 ideally 2, I think. Sometimes it is hard to know exactly how much he eats as if I get at all distrated my large brown imposter cat (woof) comes in and cleans up the plate. I think my imposter cat has eaten enough cat food to switch from barking to meowing.

Have a great weekend.

Re: Simke AMS 356 +1 365 +4 270 +8 349 dosing question

I'm not sure you saw this last night:

If you shoot different amounts at AMPS and PMPS chances are you're going to get wonky numbers. Because Lantus is a depot insulin, it is most effective if there's consistency. Changing the dose without giving the depot time to settle means you lose all of the benefits of the long acting characteristics of Lantus. You'd be better off making sure there's food available if you're concerned about numbers dropping at night.

If I had to guess about why Simke had trouble with the lower numbers before, I suspect it was due more to his not being used to seeing those greens than his weight. He's been in lower ranges since then.
I'd increase to 1.0u.

Thanks,

Yes I saw that and have been giving him a fat .75, just under the one line Am and Pm. But I'll put it up to 1Unit

Simke will be hungrier until he gets into regulation numbers ( under 200) all the time.
His body isn't getting the nutrition it needs from the food he's eating right now.... that's what the diabetes does so his body is truly starving and he'll eat more to compensate for
that lack of nutrition.
That's why diabetic cats lose weight over time .... usually what gets most people 's attention so the diagnosis gets made.
