Welcome Sherri- Skittles is gorgeous. He was diagnosed about a month ago? What insulin dose did you start at ? How did you get up to 4 units? Can you tell us more about Skittles diet? I see he is on MD dry - but as you probably know if you have been reading this forum, that is too high in carbs. Most use a low carb canned food - have you read about the foods on catinfo? (I would send you the link but I dont' know how)
Great job in setting up your spread sheet and signature I see you have not been getting readings before the pm shot - we get a BG test before each shot. I'm still learning all this myself and I'm sure many others will chime in soon to help and answer your questions. Please ask lots of questions.

Hi Sherri. Your signature is fine. The information that I look for if I am going to help out is:
Name of Cat, Cat's Age, Location (City, State because this helps me know what time zone you are in), DX date, insulin, meter, syringes, food, current/previous illnesses, medications, additives to food (such as Methyl B12, Cosequin, Vit B, etc.).

Do you need any assistance with when to test? As Carol mentioned, since you are shooting a high dose (or any dose for that matter), you absolutely need a test before your morning shot and a test before you evening shot. With Prozinc, you also need to know how low the insulin is taking Skittles which is around the +5-+7 timeframe. Without that number, we don't know how well Prozinc is doing. Also to ensure that Skittles is safe while you are sleeping, it is suggested to test just before you go to bed. Do you have any questions regaridng these suggestions?

If you are going to change foods to a lower carb food, then you definitely need to follow the suggestions above on when to test. Transitioning to lower carb food could drop your numbers by 100 points or more. As always, you want to make sure your kitty does not go too low when you transition.

Please let us know how we can help you.

Yeah, I know how to test . I had another cat years ago that I actually got into remission following the info from this group
I tend to second guess myself when it comes to my own animals. I have 25 plus years working with animals.
I do plan on getting him switched over to all can, I'm packing up myn2 story brick, 4 bed house by myself so it's harder on me because my dog eats any can food. Shoot been catching him eating skittles $40 a bag Hills ! I put kona( my dogs) food in my room cause I think skittles has been eating his food..... He didn't like the Hills.

Carol -- forgot to answer this question of yours , started out at 2 units and due to his numbers at several different times the vet raised him to 3 units and then again to 4 after still high numbers
I've been testing him since day one, they just aren't on his spreadsheet since they were before I joined here . But I will be posting his numbers for now on
I will be more consistent with testing after my move this weekend
I do so much running around right now that I can't get all the times he should be tested by his insulin type
