I want some advice!

I have a second home on the coast of NC. I have not been since Kitty's dx 3 months ago, except for two quick day trips--I have chosen to stay home and take care of Kitty. I use to go about every other weekend. Well, I am considering going this weekend and taking Kitty. She has never been and am I anxious about the stress it might create and the effect on her bg. She rides well, but she has never been in the car except to go to the vet.

The trip is about 2.5 hours. I am considering putting the seats down and putting a large crate in the back for her. I can equip it with a litter box, food and water.

So--am I crazy for not going or crazy for wanting to take her with me?

I am hoping to have Kitty around for awhile--and taking her to the vet to board often is not the life I want for her.

I have considered taking my vet tech friend with me to be available if something goes haywire.

So shoot me straight---should I take her?

We traveled often with Oliver - several overnight road trips with a week or two in the destination. He was very mellow and didn't mind being in the car. Once we got to the destination, he was happy as long as he had his food, litter box and was allowed to sleep on the bed. I would sure give it a try. You are getting very experienced with her care and can manage it there as well as at home. Even if she does get a little stressed in the car, she should mellow out when you get to the new place.

One thing we did when we moved was to put petroleum jelly on his feet before we left the house and had him walk all around the carpets. Then when we got to the new place, he would leave the scent of the old place on the carpet, upholstery etc in the new place. Maybe it was wishful thinking that it worked, but he never had trouble with a move. Since it is not a long ride, it might work for Kitty.

If she travels well and you can make her comfy, I say take her. I know with my guys, they'd rather be with us than boarded.

I say-TAKE HER!! Just not to the beach- beach! As much as kitties like fish, I doubt she would like that! Mine looked at the ocean one day and I swear she thought, THAT is one big bath, and I AM NOT getting in there!!
Which part of the coast, if you don't mind me asking?
I am on the coast myself,WAY down in the southeastern section.
Weather has been beautiful!!!!!

I have only taken Shakes to the vet,
but I have noticed when my husband comes and drives,
we can sit in the back and I take her out of the cage which makes him less nervous...
so if you do take her I would do the crate thing so she is not confined
and it might make her less anxious

We took one of our cats to the beach once. I was afraid she'd think it was a giant litter box, but fortunately, there were no bathroom incidents. Just a lot of crying and sniffing and digging around.

We have a place in upstate NYon the Hudson River, and I had the same questions about Squamee. We used to not take her, and then she began over-grooming herself and getting bald spots. Vet could find nothing (test, biopsy, etc). We began taking her with us. She loved it and no more bald spots!
