should I try going OTJ?

Snoopy has had his numbers below 100 most of the time for over a month. I'm only giving him 0.25 most of the time right now. Well, of course I can't really tell if it's .25 because the only has .5 increments, but it's in the neighborhood of .25. So should I just go ahead and go OTJ and see what happens? What do I watch for if I do stop/ How high or how much time should I let it go before panicing and starting back up?

These pre-shot numbers are great. I am, however, very concerned about where Snoopy's nadirs (i.e., low point in the cycle -- somewhere in the middle of each 12 hour period between shots) are. I realize you've only posted on the Health board before but I'm surprised no one, besides Julia, informed you that Lantus dosing is based on the nadir, not on the pre-shot number. You really need to have been getting spot checks during the cycles to insure that Snoopy is safe and not experiencing periods of hypoglycemia. If you've not read them already, please read the starred sticky notes at the top of the Board.
 
If I was in your situation, I would sneak the dose down until you're at .1 unit. If you go too quickly off of the insulin (and relatively speaking going from .25 units to zero is a huge decrease), there is more of a chance that the OTJ will not "stick".

So maybe draw up what you were calling .25u and then twist the plunger to get 1 drop out. If the numbers stay green/low blue on that for a week, then squeeze another drop out. Until you're out of drops :-D

This is the hardest part of the dance - to be patient and not try to rush it. :-D
 
Yes, I know that I should be watching out for the nadirs. I had done a couple curves and spot checks toward the middle. In fact worrying about that has made me keep his dose conservative. So I guess I'll just nurse him down slowly and figure it out from there.
