Should I switch from Lantus to Levemir??

Winnie's numbers seem to be all over the map again. I've read that Levemir can result in smoother results than Lantus and am wondering whether we should make the switch. Any insights would be much appreciated!
I reduced her dose from 0.5 to 0.25 units on Feb. 13, in response to a reading of 68 on the evening of Feb. 12. (I use an Alphatrak2 pet meter). I kept her at 0.25 units for the next 4 days. She was in the 300s and 400s for most of that time. So on Feb. 17, I put her back to 0.5 units.
The last 2 days she was still in the 300s and 400s. Today, the readings are lower but they're dropping when they should be rising - although her PMPS tonight was up slightly - and I'm afraid she'll start bouncing again. Looking back, that may be what happened on Feb. 15 when she dropped to 164. At the time, I didn't think that was a very low number but the drop from what it had been may have been enough to set her off again. If that was the case, then I was wrong to put her back up to 0.5. But she seemed to have been doing better in December and January at higher doses (0.75 and then 0.5) and I wanted to get her out of that purple and red range.
But I sure don't want her going into the greens again and that seems to be where she's headed. Was I too hasty in bumping her up to 0.5? Should I be switching to Levemir??
Thank-you for any insights you can offer.

Levemir is something you might want to consider. You've given Lantus a good run. Typically we suggest people try at least six months on an insulin before considering a switch, but it looks like Winnie has been diabetic over a year. There are no guarantees of course, but some cats do become flatter on Levemir. My Neko became flatter. Winnie looks like she loves to bounce. She could still bounce on Lev, maybe not as much. I found that Neko's drops were slower so she didn't get the bounces from fast drops as much. The one thing you have to consider on Lev is that onset is typically around +4 and nadir around +8. Neko's was even later for both. Not everyone's life can handle the later nadir. For me it worked beacause I am often up at +9 in the PM cycle and that was a good time for a nadir check.

If you do switch to Lev, post here before you do and we can help with a suggested dose. Normally we'll suggest starting at 70% of the Lantus dose as some cats get a strong reaction to the new insulin. That's also why we suggest doing the switch when you can monitor closely and test every three hours for a couple of cycles.

Today looks like Winnie is breaking a bounce. She may need some extra monitoring tonight as the 0.5 unit depot is also filling up. There is nothing wrong with high greens. Seeing lower numbers more often will help train Winnie's body that these numbers are OK and she doesn't need to bounce as much.

I don't know if you are following Tight Regulation or Start Low, Go Slow method for dosing, but she hasn't earned a reduction by either method. I would hold the dose.
