I just got the ReliOn Glucometer...OMG! You guys are saving my boy's life! Came home and tested him...289!!! Should I give him a unit or wait until tonite regular dose???

It's best to give your kitty every 12 hours a dose of insulin. What is the time apart right now?
Btw do you have the time to set up a SS? So we can all see what the numbers are and what you gave, like food, and ehat kind of dose, stuff like that so if you have questions like these, everyone can look at your SS to help you quicker! :)

He's on a 10 am, 10pm currently. The spreadsheets look so confusing...also I don't have a pc or laptop...can they be done on a tablet?

Okay, and what time is it now were you at? I'm from the Netherlands so I really don't know were you are ;)

Yes you can fill the SS in on your tablet, that's no problem! I do it a lot of times on my phone even :joyful:
@Marje and Gracie can you help @Katie&Kirby help set up a SS?

I also got him some diabetic treats. Vet says give him a middle meal..no shot tho. I give him tuna since no carbs.

Oh that's good no carb treats!

6:13 is a little early I find. That's 3,5 hours earlier than the supposed shot time. You can play a little with the shot time, max 1 hour. (sorry, what type of insulin are you using?)

And you can change your signature (see mine) for some basic info. Click on your profile page and go to signature and fill in the basic info like your cats name, age, country, diagnose date, insulin what you're using, and type of food.
This for now since you don't yet have a SS!
Well Marje can help you set up that SS and there is a info thread about it how it works, but lets wait for Marje so she can help you set it up.

I understand it's all confussing, heck, I felt the same thing when I started out ;) didn't even know what the + (numbers) meant hihi! It will all be explained to you later on!
Remember to breath, you will have this all under control in no time! :bighug:

Oh that's something I can't help you with.
Insulin is expensive though... Maybe @Sue and Oliver (GA) or @Bobbie And Bubba can help you with that?
I've used Prozinc, I think that is also expensive in the US... But in Europe it's cheaper. I pay €50 I think that's around $55 and I could use it for 3 months.
But I wouldn't just switch to something cheaper because not every insulin is good for every kitty you know what I mean?
But you can save money on other things like home testing and food. People on this forum can help you with that!

Vet says Novolin N will be okay. It's $25 at Wal-Mart. I can afford that. Not $118, I literally can't afford it. It's really stressing me out. I see a lot of people use Lantus. That's expensive too tho. What to do????

I just looked at your info, your doing great with buying the human meter! No need for super expensive meters!
And about being scared, it's normal to be scared and confussed at the beginning, oh dear, i cried my eyes out for days after the diagnose!
Just remember to breath, we are all here for you! :bighug:

But you already have bought PZI right? And how long can you use it? I would suggest using this until you finish it.. Then you can look into new insulin (a week prior to running out of PZI), does that sounds good for you?

I'm so blessed to have you guys!!!

I'm going to sleep now, it's 1:00AM right now here in the Netherlands and i'm watching way to much discovery channel murder cases late at night, something you should not do right before you're going to sleep :woot:
Please if you need me, tag me, put @ and than the name behind it and a little namebox will pop up.
I will be around in about 7 to 8 hours!
Hope Marje and the other people i've tagged will be around for you to help you with some of your questions later on, and ofcourse with your SS to set up!
And Katie,, you are doing great! :bighug:

Katie, how much PZI do you have? At one unit twice a day, it should last awhile. Then maybe we can find something in the Supply that is good and cheaper. No one here uses N - it tends to be harsh, doesn't last long enough and is hard to regulate with

No, don't give a shot early. @Marje and Gracie s may be able to help you with the spreadsheet. We really need that so can see his patterns and levels

I will send you a private message so I can get some info and do a SS for you. Check your inbox in the upper right corner of this page.
