Shot skipping question

So if you have been following Guinness' progress you are aware that he isn't necessarily responding very well to the insulin. We haven't quite found his "dream dose" right now. Something has come up for this Saturday (tomorrow) evening where I won't be around for his PM shot. I normally shot him at 4:30am and 4:30pm, but on Saturday I have a function to attend at about 1pm and probably won't be home until midnight. I don't have anyone who can come and shoot him at 4:30pm (I could hire a pet sitter for this, but I'm not even sure she could do it on this late notice). How bad would it be for me to skip this shot? I think if he was responding beautifully and we were on some sort of downhill roll, it might really mess things up, but since his numbers won't budge below 300, I'm wondering if the skipped shot will really be all that detrimental?

Is it ideal? No. Does life happen? Yes. It would be no different than if you gave a fur shot.

Hi Linda!

Gosh, I have no idea...the only thing I can think of is Guinness was probably days and days without insulin before you noticed that his honeymoon was over so I'm only guessing that it shouldn't be that big of a problem. I don't know how that will effect the 'shed' as I am new to the Lantus brand myself.

I'm wondering if anyone else on this board lives close to you? I would come over in a heartbeat if I could help your boy!

Denne' you are so sweet! Could you please fly across the country and give my boy his shot? I hate to skip him, but I don't see any choice in this case. Thank you for the support.

Linda, I agree completely with Denne, I would come take care of your boy if i lived near you too.. I believe any one of us would. I think he should be ok for the night.

i've lately been considering coming home to give a shot and returning to whatever i was doing. don't know if that's a possibility in your case, but thought i'd throw it out there.

I've considered that, but I will be too far away geographically and in the middle of something it would be rude to leave from. In the years prior I never missed a shot, but this is something I'm having trouble justifying missing or leaving from to come home and shoot especially since his numbers don't seem to be moving much.

I am 75 and have a hard time injecting my cat by myself. My son helps me for now. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can inject my cat Alley by myself. Alley doesn't act nice like the other cats I've seen on this site.
She tries to get away and doesn't want anypart of a shot, even when she is eating she will take off! Any good idea's out there? I've skipped a couple of shots and also about three fur shots and that is with a helper.

Your question is going to get lost in this thread. When you look at the board (vs. opening an existing post), there is a button right below the "Lantus/Glargene" title that is labeled, "NEWTOPIC." You click on that and a new box is opened. You can then enter your subject and pose your question.

I think you will get a bigger response if you post on the Health board, though. I've linked you to the Health board. Health is the main discussion board for this site. There are a large number of people who post there and they can help you with general questions. The Lantus board, as well as the other Insulin Support Groups, are more for questions related to a specific type of insulin. The method for asking a question is the same as I described above.
