I'm wondering if I should just skip the ProZinc shot tonight since it is 140. Would you? It was 126 this morning and I didn't give her a shot. It was 128 Saturday evening and I didn't give her a shot.

What is the regular dose? How long have you been treating her?

I've been giving her 1 unit twice a day. Her numbers have been very good the last week. She's been getting the Friskies Special Diet canned foods--Turkey and Giblets, White Fish, Salmon and Beef and Chicken. I stopped giving her the Hill's K/D dry and I'm pretty sure that this is what triggered her diabetes. Several of you mentioned the K/D increasing her numbers in my initial post. I had opened a new bag of it and she was eating much more of it than the previous bag--probably because it was so fresh. The last time she had some, her glucose shot up to 450. Poor thing. She was feeling pretty lousy for about a week and I had to give her two rounds of subq fluids because she was so dehydrated. My vet told me that the ProZinc wouldn't kick in until about a week, and he was right. Before then I was starting to panic thinking that the ProZinc wasn't doing anything because her numbers were in the 400's and 500's. Then, suddenly it started working and she's feeling so much better. It's so nice to open the door to her room and have her walk over to me and want something to eat instead of just lying there in her bed not even lifting her head up.

Safe to assume you didn't shoot tonite? If not, that should be fine. When you have given her a shot, it's always been 1u?
So on Saturday, she had 1u in the AM, nothing at night (128). Sunday morning (126) and no shot? And tonight a 140?
So she hasn't had any insulin since yesterday morning, and she's still below 150.
Do you have any test data in between the AMPS and PMPS this weekend?
Carl

I didn't give her any shot tonight. I use slightly less than the 1 unit (I use the .3 cc short needles with 1/2 units from Wal-Mart instead of the U-40 needles). I don't have any readings between the am and pm glucose tests. Since she's feeling better, she keeps swatting her ear with her paw when I'm doing the test, so I've just been doing the am and pm lately so that I don't annoy her anymore than I have to.

Well, here's where I was going with that....
I'm thinking that if you get a number that you feel comfortable with for shooting, you could try half that dose. Like instead of 1u in the morning and nothing at night, shoot .5 in the morning, and if needed, .5 at night. The numbers look an awful lot like what I was getting with Bob just before he went OTJ, and I think she could be just about "there". I'm thinking that if you can keep the insulin working through both cycles, that might just be enough to get you numbers below 100, at which point you could stop shooting and see what happens. ECID (every cat is different) so you might not get identical results, but I think it might be an option you could try over the next couple days and see how she reacts. If you do try something like that, a +6 test would be ideal, so you got see how low she goes "at the bottom".

That's only if you get a shootable number in the morning, though. She could throw you another 120 and if so, I'd let that ride.
