So, last night my cat threw up right after getting his insulin shot. Here is that thread. Thanks to several really caring and dedicatedl people on this board, I got a lot of guidance and support that helped me keep my Comet safe. I cannot thank all of you enough. Your kindness and breadth of knowledge and experience makes this board something really special.

I have been waiting all day with increasing impatience for my vet to call or email me back so I can figure out what to do tonight. I know the clinic she works at tends to get slammed with emergencies on Monday; I am hoping I will be able to talk with her before I have to make a call about shooting or not tonight but I don't think I can count on it. Comet is currently at 283. I think he needs something. But I am not sure what dose would be appropriate/safe -- the 1/4 he is supposed to get, something smaller? I also am not sure what impact it would have. I feel a little shy about asking for help again, but here I am asking.

I cannot give dosing advice but I want to make one thing perfectly clear DONT YOU EVER FEEL SHY ABOUT ASKING FOR HELP.
Your questions are why we are here. Doesnt matter how many times you ask the same question doesnt matter if you feel its a dumb question. If nobody asked questions OR for help this site wouldnt exist. Dont make me come up there young lady!

Jeanne, that made me laugh and tear up all at the same time. Thank you so much.

Right. Down to business.

First up, some questions:

1. How has Comet been doing today with his food? Any more vomiting or signs of nausea? (Symptom checklist here.)

2. Has Comet ever tested positive for ketones or had any episodes of DKA?

3. How tired are you?

1.He's been doing pretty well. Ate 1/3 of a small can of FF at breakfast, 2/3 of another can later, ate some tuna, and will soon get at least 1/2 can of something else. I will put down more for him when he polishes it off. No vomiting today and none of those signs of nausea.
2. No, his ketones have always been negative. No episodes of DKA.
3. I am kind of tired (couldn't nap today) but am game for checking. I might try to snooze between checks.

If he’s eating and over 200 I wouldn’t skip another dose again. I feel he will be given current numbers :bighug:
Okay, here we go. He is at 297, I have just set down some dinner, he is eating with enthusiasm. I will give him some time to do his eat and walk away thing before I shoot. Thank you for your help (again!). I should stay with 1/4 unit?

I really think in order to see some greens out of him you’ll have to start shooting at lower numbers. As long as he’s eating we can walk you through it. It’s basically the same process you did last night. Feeding every hour to keep him from going too low. But I’d do it during the day of course. Something to consider while you have your BGP on
I am guessing you're right. I am hoping that tonight being relatively laidback means that he will have a lower AMPS than his PMPS was, , which will give I'm a better chance of getting lower.

I agree, I would be surprised if he left the 200s. He's not getting there tonight.
So tired that I fell asleep without turning off the desk lamp next to my bed. Imagine my surprise at +8.5: 176! Will have to make a new shooting decision in a few hours. Not sure where he'll be then, but if he stays this low I don't know what I'd be able to do safely.

Hi Jenny!

Glad you got some sleep. I know the blues are scaring the bejeezus out of you, but they're very good for Comet! :)

I'd suggest grabbing an early reading at +11.5 this morning and post it in a new thread for today. That'll give a little bit of time to look at possible options and hopefully keep you on schedule. Then please take the AMPS reading at the normal time and post that too.

In the meantime, can you answer a few standard pre-flight checks:

- Is Comet over his tum upset and eating well again?

- Are you are at home and available to monitor him today?

- Do you have an adequate supply of higher carb food options, honey/karo, etc., in your toolkit?

I tried sleeping again so only just saw this. 131! Only a few minutes before AMPS.

He is eating pretty well.
I am home but unfortunately not for the full day. I have 2 Zoom work meetings that I can't get out of.
I have honey and medium carb foods (FF chicken and liver with gravy, some other FF with gravy). I think I may have a can or two of higher carb stuff, but oddly it would be stuff that he didn't love very much when he did eat it. I have a couple of things that I am guessing are higher carb but aren't on the food chart, so I don't know (Wellness Tiny Tasters).
