PMPS is 174- was going to go from 3units to 2.75 units tonight. Should I shoot? I put food down to see if he was even going to eat.... He didn't act like he wanted to- usually when we go near his food he's meowing and acting like I'm going to slow. He did start to eat as I walked out to post this. Still hasn't peed today...

This would be the lowest number you've shot but he's on the way up. Do you have strips, food (HC/gravy/karo), and can you stay up and monitor?

You've handled low numbers including today. Do you think you're ready?

I won't be able to stay with you but you will need to get a +1 and +2 and post them. There will be others around.

Two links are in my signature block: Handling Low Numbers and Dealing with Low Preshots.....they could be helpful.

I also see that he's on the rise and think it is okay to shoot. Is he still eating his food?

I have everything on hand... The one thing I'm worried about is he didn't eat... Took a few bites and is under the bed...

I was going to say "yes" and suggest a +2 and +3. This is an alphatrack meter, right?
Basically, I'm nodding at what Marje and Dyana already said :-D

I'm not really sure....he's never not wanted to eat before even when we've had lower numbers. Also just realized its 6pm and I'm supposed to be on a 7 pm schedule. Will check him again in an hour. If his numbers are still going up and I can get him to eat a bit I guess I'll be ok to shoot?

So the 174 is a +11 test? If so, yes, I'd wait and check him at the normal shot time and see what his number is and if he will eat.

I always try to mention that when I see it in a sig. It puts emphasis on the green numbers you've been seeing, especially that 50s you saw a few nights ago.

So, the real pmps is 228. He peed- ketones negative!! And, he's more interested in eating. Going to go ahead and give the 2.75units.

Thanks!

Go for it!

When a cat is more interested in eating, that means they are feeling better. The insulin may be helping his appetite.

Going to respond to your post on health in here since you have 2 posts going and its getting confusing. As you have probably guessed, the experienced guys are all in this forum so this is likely the best place for you right now.

anyway...

I just looked back at when he was at 2.75. I thought he wasn't doing good, but were those blacks on the 20th and 23rd after the PM dosing bounces from the 190 numbers we had during the day? After the highs on the 23rd I didn't really give a full 3 days for him to clear before going up to 3units..... hmmmmm
The blacks those days have well have been bounces you didnt manage to measure. Plus He was on antibiotics then so the infection could have been keeping him high and he needed more insulin. Or since then his pancreas may have healed a little since then. All we know now is that 3units looks like it may be too much so we see how 2.75 does.
