No - not based on weight. The starting dose is a 1/4 tab of a 10 mg tablet once a day. Fluoxetine (the generic you will get) is rather crumbly so I snap it in half and then use a pill cutter to cut the halves in half. I put it in a pill pocket - also because it crumbles and because I think it must have a bitter taste. Jeddie reacted with salivating and shaking his head if he tasted it.
Supposedly it can take a week before you see any change, but with Jeddie it was the next day. I have started Cami on it for inappropriate peeing (same reason I used in for Jeddie) and it hasn't made much change yet. I might increase the dose to a 1/2 tab once a day (or 1/4 tab bid).
If you stop the medication, you need to ween them off it. I stopped Jeddie's for his biopsy surgery by going to every other day for about a week.
