OMG I am freaking out! I went to give sheba her insulin shot and pinched her skin and the entire pelt on her back came off her skin. What is wrong? Did I do something wrong? Has this happended to anyone else. Please answer if you know what I am talking about and know what is happening. She is not bleeding and yes she is going to the vet in the morning. Is she going to loose her pelt completely? I am really upset.

i apologize i'm not on much lately so i am not familiar with you and your kitty. the first thing that comes to mind is cushings disease. let me see if i can find someone with experience with it 'cause i'm not that familiar with it other than the skin tears easily. and they might have advice as to what to do for her tonight, what to talk to the vet about tomorrow, etc......

does she appear to be in pain from it tonight?

Did the fur just come out, but the skin is intact?

Sorry, I have no real experience except for foster kittens that have had ringworm. They have their fur come off in clumps. I'm not sure what kind of medical condition may cause that though!

I've only seen one Cushings cat here in the last 2.5 years. Her skin was very thin and would actually tear. I don't know if that is what you are seeing. Cushings is rare in cats. I would take her to the vet tomorrow.

She is not in pain and is doing just fine and acting normal. And the fur is not coming out in clumps it is just coming off her skin like a fur pelt. Like I tore her fur from her skin. She is not in any pain and I wonder if the shots I have been giving her could have weakened her skin and make it easy to tear.

That would be extremely unusual. Most likely it is something else that is going on. You should take her to the vet so they can determine what is going on.

Skin actually tearing also made me think of cushings condition as the skin is quite thin and tears. There have been a handful of cushings cats in recent years; it's not that common that I have known.

If it's just the hair, I thought of alopecia, and there are several causes for this condition

I would think if it continues, you may want to get your vet to take a look at the loss on Sheba and see if it's a problem that is treatable.
