I am freaking out even tho I called the vet immediately and he said not to worry.
Little ate 2 “slices” of roasted garlic. Not exactly thin soprano like slices but something like tot would cut off a clove to sauté or roast.
My vet was confident that I shouldn’t worry but then I got googling ‍♀️.

It’s been sn hour and she seems fine. I’d hate to take her to the ER vet to induce vomiting if it isn’t necessary and they won’t even take her unless I have a case number from poison control first.
Thoughts? Anyone else ever have this experience.?

I have no personal experience with this, but did a bit of googling too and found out:
1) symptoms may take 2-4 days to appear, so being fine now doesn't mean she'll be fine later, and
2) here is the number for the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center: (888-426-4435)

I had one of my cats at the ER recently as he ate a raisin and they gave him an injection to vomit but he didn’t. I had to get his blood tested 2days later to check his kidney function. He was ok.
A couple of years ago the same cat ate onions and we went through the same scenario .. didn’t vomit and had to have his red blood cells checked.
I think onions and garlic cause the same issue.
I would try ringing the ER or the poisons centre to try and get more information.

I rang my vet and 2 ER vets and no one was really that concerned. I got the impression that if she doesn’t vomit or have diarrhea in the next few days the anemia issue was “off the table”. How did your cats RBC tests turn out after both incidents?
I feel like such a moron as I actually gave her the bowl to lick not thinking about the garlic and never expecting her to eat it. I got distracted and looked away- too much multi tasking. I am sick over this.

Thank you! I found some answers from vet forums that have eased my mind a bit but I will still watch her like a hawk for the next week. So much for sleep‍♀️

Im usually good like that but she’s a beggar. At recent well visit to the vet he told me to let her lick some olive oil once in a while bc she has dry stools. So lately I’ve been letting her lick my plate after I have something with olive oil. The garlic didn’t dawn on me till afterward. Good news is so far so good. Do you think I should have her RBCs checked in a few days regardless even if she has no symptoms at all?

If you can afford it it might be a good idea. I would be guided by the vet.

I'm not sure if olive oil is a good option. You can safely give her coconut oil as long as it's pure coconut oil. I give a little dab on my finger to my boys every once in awhile, it also helps to put on there ears after testing. I do sometimes after I'm done testing for the night.

Coconut oil? In all my googling over this mess last night, coconut oil came up as a no no for cats. Guess you can find something good and bad on anything since I also found a vet that said “some” garlic is good for cats. I give up!!

Hi Lisa

I took the 911 down. I hope all is ok there now. Please remember that the 911 should come down as soon as someone pops on to help you.

Thanks and Merry Christmas. I hope Little is fine.

Sorry about that. Never used 911 before. Thanks to all that weighed in. So far all good. I’m still a paranoid mama but numerous calls to the vet they keep saying stop worrying. I’m trying but still watching like a hawk.
