So the traditional wisdom for years with PZI was never to shoot throught the bounce. The advice was to lower the dose if the cat bounced. Unfortunately, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.

Lately we have altered that. Some beans shoot through the dose (maintain the dose, don't lower the dose) and some lower. So, I am wondering - who did which and did it work or not? I am seeing more bouncing kitties than I have ever seen before - and not just on ProZinc. So many cats seem to be bouncing.

The original forum was for PZI and in some ways, it seems to work differently than ProZinc. One way I think I have seen is that with PZI, if you increased the dose too much, the cat eventually crashed low and you knew to reduce the dose. I don't think I see that with ProZinc. (Iam thinking lately of you, Rachel. She just continued on up and finally you got better numbers when you restarted?). I have seen it happen with a few newbies on Health when they have increased by a unit at a time and are up to 4-5 units and finally learn to test and get a 100 for a preshot. But not when people increase slowly and carefully.

As you all know, there are no scientific/vet based studies for ProZinc. So we have to figure this out on our own. I hope you'll be willing to share and brainstorm and see if we can come up with some good ideas. Game?

This is a great idea Sue! As you know, Gypsy ended up needing a lower dose. Increasing brought her down for a day or two and then she'd be back to the mid 300s. Only when we went down did we get anywhere. She's down to half a unit twice daily and seems to finally hit yellows for most preshots. I was up to 3 units when I finally scaled back to 1...and then 0.8 and now 0.6. Still looking to get her numbers down a bit but we are roughly 100 points lower than we used to be most days.

Cass does best when I hold a dose for at least a week (preferably two). I don't make any dose changes until I see a consistent pattern for at least 4 days-either increase or decrease. He occasionally throws.a low or a high that's isolated & it's best not to react. He's also been known to have "delayed" cycles whete he.doesn't drop until after +6 and the cycle is long.

Cass has always been bouncy; holding the dose & letting the bounce clear works best for him. He used to have a flat.cycle following a bounce, but now it clears in the same cycle. If /dI increase to get greens, hr just bounces more. We've been as high as 1.4 and as low as 0.4u, but usually he's somewhere near 1u. We've been around for over 2 years and it took almost 2 years before he stopped bouncing so much and became something close to regulated.

I think Cass is an interesting one, Lisa. Most cats don't seem to need more than a few cycles to settle in. The frustrating thing is to figure out which kind of cat a new bean has - a Cass or a Rumpel... Holding a dose for a week is a hard sell. I know it is all about collecting data, but that seems to be a hard sell sometimes also.

I haven't quite figured Miss PJ out yet so can't really share anything. It seems as though one thing (lower/higher doses) works for a couple days but then fizzles out and she does a rebound. At least she's staying in the blues and occasional greens.

I haven't figure Gracie's out either, and can't contribute much, but I have noticed the higher the dosage the more her preshot numbers seem to rise. Unfortunately Gracie stays mostly in the pink color.

We are still collecting data for Tommy. As long as he doesn't get into contraband food, like the last couple of days (darn DH) he's been doing fairly well and staying in the 200's with a few 300's this past week. I don't think he is bouncing quite as much as he has in the past. Right now I'm trying to gradually get into the 100's to try and prevent those bounces.

Simon was so all over the place with his numbers that I began to custom dose based on pre shot numbers. In the early days, he bounced quite a bit but as I lowered his dose, he settled down and then had a lot of flat cycles. I still have NO clue what type of kitty he is in terms of his numbers cause he never was the same two weeks in a row. I was pretty consistent in dosing him for a few weeks with the same dose before raising/lowering it (usually in response to some anomaly that cropped up) so hope that helps. confused_cat
