Hello Guys,

I didn't have chance to come online for a long time so I want to tell you the news and need your advices...
I had been on a vacation for 10 days but I found someone to shot Lantus Shanga everyday. So that didn't be a problem.
But When I came back he had lower BG levels and vet wanted me to stop using insulin for 2 weeks and see things.
I check everyday his BG and he seems he is doing good and my vet told me to stop insulin...
But actually I am not sure about it...
It has been really hard to find fancy feast here, so I give him another wet food time to time but i've realized that when he eats it he goes higher than 100.
I really dont know what to do with food. I've tried chicken and turkey but they make his BG sugar higher than 100 again...
His mouth was better 4 weeks ago but now his stomatitis came back again. I started to give salmon oil 12days ago days maybe thats why he got stomatitis.
I really dont know. After full mouth extraction surgery, he was doing well, lesions were gone but now they are back...
I am really confused and really dont know what to do...
Need your advices...

What does the vet say about the stomatitis coming back and what sort of treatment is available for the new lesions?
Why are you giving the salmon oil?
You started giving the oil and stopped insulin on the same day?

From looking at the ss, those numbers are looking just fine. If you are getting nice blue numbers around / under 120, maybe you just need to try a diff food.

The food you are giving, is it a pate like fancy feast? Be sure you don't feed some foods with gravies. Also, look to the ingredients of the foods you are feeding; I don't know what ingredients to avoid but I guess grains and gravies and rice or starchy stuff would be bad.

You can do a food kind of test to see how well his pancreas is working. Test him and feed him, then about an hour later, test again and you should see a bit of a lower BG on the second test.

congratulations on no insulin for so long; it sounds like you have a diet controlled diabetic kitty!

wow Joy, congratulations! i'm sure we'd like to see more green numbers, but it looks like everything is staying under 120 - how fantastic!

i think i'd keep testing twice a day just to stay on top of shanga's situation. any infection, including if the stomatitis gets worse, can throw shanga back out of remission. i might almost want to give a little insulin since you're seeing lesions until they go away. if you wanted to get those overall numbers a little bit lower, you could go back to the 0.1 and see if you saw more greens.

if you think the salmon oil might be causing the stomatitis to flare up, why don't you stop giving it and see what happens?

is a raw food diet a possibility? there are recipes for how to make it. you must have supplements, especially taurine, if you're feeding raw, but perhaps that would help with both the BG and the sores.

My cat had stomatitis and he got full mouth extreactions 2 months ago.
I checked his mouth a month ago and it seemed very good.
When I came back from the vacation ive realized some redness and i started to give salmon oil.( vet told me)
I started salmon oil next day i left the insulin...
I feed Shanga with Fancy Feast but Fancy Feast wont come to my country anymore so it's really hard to find.
So I started to give some other grain free wet food with Fancy Feast but I see it causes higher BG.
I checked tonight his mouth and i saw lesions again back of his teeth. I dont give salmon oil since 3 days...
I called the vet and he will check his mouth this week...
I read forums that cat can be allergic to salmon oil or protein... I dont know how im gonna control his stomatitis...
And also I really dont know its a good idea to leave insulin, I changed 8 vets here to find right cure for Shanga but at the end i just realized that people here helped me so much more than the vets...

Its great to see you :) Shanga is doing good with numbers but I agree with you that starting 0.1 dose again to see green numbers...
I alresdy quit giving salmon oil 3 days ago and I am waiting for the results. I started to give it because i saw little redness in his mouth but i see now it gets worse so maybe salmon oil caused that... I really dont know...
I made the raw food recipe but shanga doesnt eat it... He doesnt eat anything raw... and as you know if he doesnt eat too long he gets higher BG. So that scares me. I just give Fancy Feast lately and see what happens with his BG.

just wondering.... what are the foods available by you, the brands and the flavors?

Maybe we can look them up online and examine the ingredients to see might be the best food for you to feed.

If you are not seeing a rise in Shanga's numbers even with the stomatitis lesions, I don't see why you would need to start insulin again.

I don't know what treatment is given for stomatitis returning lesions. I am guessing you should see to that problem first because your test numbers for Shanga's BG are looking just fine.

Its the worst part I think...
Fancy Feast was the only food i could give to Shanga. I checked every wet food here that they all have grains or they are gravy or jelly.
So I really dont know what to do with the food.
Vet told me that Purina DM will come on March to Turkey... So maybe I will buy that. Because he doesnt eat home made food...
I dont wanna give insulin but i know if his mouth goes worse he will get higher BG... So I am so scared...

How about if you post over in the Health Forum, put your subject to be something like "How to treat stomatitis lesions", then put in your post to say that the teeth were extracted a month ago, the mouth was good, but just today you see them returning.

Doesn't stress affect lesions? Maybe Shanga was stressed because you went for vacation!

I am sure there will be plenty of people who can give you help with suggestions on how to handle the lesions.

I think it would be worthwhile to investigate some of the foods available in your local shops.
Here is information on figuring out % of carbs.
( have not attempted this myself - I hate math)

I think it's worth looking into - there must be something appropriate available for Shanga that would be easy for you to buy.

Hi Sandy and Black Kitty,

There are lots of wet food but they all are gravy and has grains... I calculate the carbs in them but still couldnt find right food for shanga. Vets keep saying me to use hills w/d (ofcourse i wont do that), even wet w/d has so much carb and also grains. And since shanga had stomatitis i dont give him food with grains...
My vet told me that purina dm will come on march so im looking forward that.
I bought lots of fancy feast that it will be enough until may so im gonna see what happens then or i will come to usa and buy some good food for shanga :)

Can you tell us the brand names you have available? we can look up online to see any of the flavors are good for you to try.

fancy feast is fine - that's great you have that. i didn't remember he wouldn't eat raw, so yes, of course he needs to eat. that's most important.

i'm sorry you're having trouble with his mouth again. i would've thought with all of his teeth removed that would stop being a problem. i was reading just now for home remedies and one suggested the bacteria that is in yogurt. plain yogurt is safe to give cats - you might try to get him to eat a little bit (a spoonful) every day.

We have Bonnie,Purina Gourmet,Miglior Gatto,Champion,Bran Bonta, Brit,Simba, Hills, Royal Canin,Whiskas, Filos,Hydor,Bewi Cat,Garden Mix,Gemon, Gimpet,Gran Bonta,Kitekat,Leonardo,Monge,Rokus, Smart Cat,Snappy Tom,Sparky,Ultimates, Vitto... here...

and most of them gravy or has grains... So I really don't know... I am gonna send an email the company that why they dont bring fancy feast anymore...

And thank you for the yogurt advice, I will definitely try for it :)

I read lactoferrin works on some cats, im researching about it if it causes high BG levels...

Shanga is doing good with numbers. He had 80-87 today...

and yes I am planing to give an OTJ Party here but just thinking its early for that. I want to wait a bit more and then we all will celebrate this here :)

you know what i think? i think every single cat going OTJ is FABULOUS and an inspiration to all of us! you've worked hard to get to this point - let's celebrate it! i think CD has a plan . . . :-D
