Shaikha still has a slight fever this morning (started again late last night, of course). We started a second oral antibiotic yesterday, so I'm hoping that will help get rid of this fever entirely. If not, she'll go back in for more IVs and antibiotics. She seems to feel okay otherwise, though her appetite this morning was not good yet again so I had to assist feed her. She seems hungry, just not willing to eat on her own. She was, however, very interested in dry food. :-| I'm trying to keep her on canned though as her glucose levels are rising and they don't need any assistance. If it continues, though, I may give in to what she wants to eat as I'm very scared of causing food aversions to her canned food and I know the dry, while not good for glucose, won't contribute to puddle poo. I kept her dose the same of insulin, but may need to increase it if I'm not happy with her pattern today. She's definitely running higher, but I want to see what her nadir is and whether the pattern is flat before I increase. Hope you all have a great day!

8/3 PMPS = 277, gave 0.8U (assist fed canned)

8/4 AMPS = 301, gave 0.8U (assist fed canned)
+6 = 235 (fever is gone!)
+8 = 148
MDPS = 206, gave 0.7U (assist fed canned as nibbled on a few pieces of dry but not enough; gave shot at +8.5)
+5 = 182
PMPS = 317, gave 0.8U (she ATE! It took Fancy Feast and dry food and coaxing, but she ate!; gave shot at +7.5)
+7 = 182

Great that at +6, the fever is gone!

Feel better Shaikha!

Well, I guess since the fever broke her glucose followed suit and dropped some, as she was surfing blues near the end of her cycle when she usually is rising. Her mid-day shot ended up being delayed by about an hour as a result as I wanted to ensure she was rising. I dropped her dose a little but we may have to go back depending on what food she's eating.

Though the fever is gone, I'm starting to get very worried about her. She still won't eat. She acts interested, but walks away after a few nibbles or licks. I know it is nausea, but she's on the max dose of the strongest drug I can give her. I ran out of bupe last night so it also could be pain. My husband is picking up more after work so hopefully with that in her appetite will improve. She is freaking out at noises or movement, something she's done in the past when she's hurting, so that could be it. We'll know more in an hour after he gets home and I'm able to give her some. I'm hoping that's all this is. I'm getting food into her despite it all, but she's really not eager to eat I can tell. Poor thing. I even tried tempting her with dry food, but she picked up a few pieces and walked away. Next up is my stash of Fancy Feast and meat baby food. We'll try her normal food first, and if that won't work, Fancy Feast it is.

She's had prior periods where she was pretty bad off, like she is now for weeks on end, so hopefully she'll bounce out of this. What worse, my regular vet left for a weeks' vacation today. The substitute vet can handle basics, but if things get bad I'll have to chance the ER clinic 1.5 hours away. I've used them before and the I liked the vets but it was really expensive and they did some things I wasn't happy with. She probably needs an ultrasound, but that's one of the things they did for another cat of mine I wasn't happy with (no useful results).

Anyway, hopefully the bupe will work wonders! She's sure got a good dose of pancreatitis this time, poor thing.

Bupe seems to have made a huge difference. She developed a slight fever again this evening, but about an hour before her normal PM meal she came in and was really bugging me for food, which is behavior I have not seen for a few days. I held her off for a little and decided to go ahead and test her. Since her glucose was over 300 I decided to give her food and insulin. We started with Fancy Feast because I wanted to try a new smell in case she had an aversion to the other food -- I didn't want to turn her off food before we got something into her stomach. She ate that pretty greedily, though only got through about 1/2 a can and it did require me doing some coaxing like putting in my hand and letting her eat out of that (she usually will nibble on anything I put in my hand if she's feeling poorly). I followed that with a few pieces of dry food, which she also ate with some coaxing. I'll take it.

She's definitely a little freaked out still by sounds or movement, so given her past patterns with pain that's definitely what we are dealing with. I've got enough bupe to carry us through the next ten days so we should be good to go.

Let's hope the eating continues!
