Hello Everyone,

Today's start at 116 ambg .
Shadow is doing well still although she does like keeping me on alert with this borderline numbers. I'd be less concerned about it if
she dropped in bg a few hours later but she is often nearly the same bg. She always did do a flatline kind of curve so maybe it's just
her way. The flat way. There have also been a few occasions where she starts in the 80's and then goes up 4 hrs later.
I don't know what that means.

I am finally getting her to eat from her timed feeder. I found the better location for it. It now sits on my nightstand by the bed.
I give her a meal in it when we go to bed and put food in the other side ( 2 tray feeder) to open 4-5 hours later.
Last night she was actually sitting next to it (at 2 am) waiting for it to open. So this may work for our Christmas trip after all.

I did feel her front right paw this week and she does have a split nail for what would be her thumbnail. And it is tender since she doesn't
want me to pull on it. I put on the strong reader glasses and looked under the light. It's not inflamed or anything.
But I bet that's why she was limping weeks ago. I was looking on google and apparently it's pretty common. I thought about taking
her to the vet for it but it's not bothering her unless I push on it and if it's so common , then it should eventually heal on it's own.
I wondered whether something like a touch of superglue to hold it together while it grows out would help but if it's a common occurrence,
then it should grow out on it's own and hopefully quit splitting. They would have to do it since I have numerous funny tales of bouts
with superglue. I glued myself to the bathroom door once ( putting a hook on the back of the door) and I couldn't yell because I had just gotten
our son to bed ( he was 1) so i stood there for a long time and finally had to just rip my hand off.
My family loves to tell tales on me and superglue. I've glued myself to so many things. That stuff is quicker than I am.

Shadow has definitely been feeling more like herself. My dd was scolding Luna and Shadow ran over and swatted Luna to reinforce the
scolding. We all love it when Shadow does that.

No news yet on DD 's bloodwork/testing for gluten, dairy, etc.... It's been a week today. Hopefully they will call soon.
She says she's feeling slightly better although she did get a new symptom a few days ago. Her bottom lip is numb.
I had more work than usual this week so I haven't been around as much. And when I was around, I was tryin to sort out the medical
bills. We have a pile here from the hospital stay for 750 and if I get it paid before 30 days , they will let us have a 40% off discount.
My DH cashed in some vacation time for medical bills ( he always has too many vacation hours and it becomes use it or lose it) .
Still waiting to see how much we'll owe on the endoscopy which was over 5k total. I sure hope we don't owe 500 on that. nailbite_smile

It's been a sadder week here on LL. So many troubles.
Many prayers for everyone. Especially Roni and Moonie.... and today, Kotek. TiggyandWendy, Ann and Tess, Melanie. Rueben and Alexa And still Dale.
It's made me feel like our cats getting diabetes is just a tip of the iceburg. I sure would like a few more uneventful years.

So true. And I hope you do get lots more uneventful years!
And sending get well vibes to your DD. (and your wallet, )

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

I hope that shadows nail heals up .. but like you said, if it is a common occurrence, it probably will and will save you a trip to the vets and some $$ .. you can put that towards those crazy medical bills .. And I agree, too much sadness around here lately .. It isn't right ..

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

Lots of nice blue and greens.. looks good to me! I have heard some guitarists use superglue on their nails or nail wraps...

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

You are so right Rhiannon, there has been a lot of sadness here lately. Some days I see a candle or the rainbow pop up on the screen and I can't go any further. That's when I stay away for a day or so after letting folks know how sorry I am.

Hope DD feels better and Shadow's nail heals. I had that with Scratchie and one day he drew blood chewing on it. It's healed up now though he chewed it way down so I would sneak neosporin on it when he was sleepy. As you can imagine that didn't work too often. Hope the bills come in less than you are expecting, then you'd have a bit of a surprise.

Sending healing vines and love to all those that need them today and every day!! :YMHUG:

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

Blues and greens for Shadow sounds good to me. I hope you get some answers soon for your DD. It sounds like you should stay away from the super glue. Hopefully Shadow's nail will heal on its own and quickly.

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

Hi Rhiannon, Glad Shadow is doing well OTJ  , her natural bg level is just enough to keep you on your toes. Keep in mind if she had not been diagnosed and she got a routine lab test with bg >120, the vet would probably say its within normal range, nothing to worry about. I hope Shadow's split nail heals on its own, I can just imagine you gluing yourself to her paw
I hope your DD's test results come back soon and you get some answers. Positive vines its something you and DD can manage and she starts feeling better.
We have had much sadness here lately, and each one is heartbreaking. I could never have imagined I would feel it so keenly for "the cat people on the internet", this truly is a community.

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

Hi Rhiannon,

Poor Shadow! A split nail must hurt. Will she let you clip her nails? If the split is lower than the bloodline maybe you can clip it or file it? Racci likes emery boards. She likes to chew them. I can file her nails if I let her play with it. Maybe Shadow would do it too? She's fascinated when I file my nails and tries to steal them from me. I'm glad she's feeling better. That must be cute when she helps you scold Luna.

Have to go. Have a great night.

Hugs,
Melanie & Racci

HI Rhiannon. So glad to see a condo for Shadow. We all missed him. He sounds like he is doing great. Way to go Shadow!

What kind of auto feeder do you have that dispenses can food? It sounds interesting.
I glued myself to the bathroom door once
That's too funny.

Super glue should work for his split nail, I would think. I would suggest you get DH to do it. You don't want to super glue yourself to Shadow or when you go to work you'll be like that guy in the commercial. A co-worker tells him "nice slippers" and he replies "they're not slippers, they're my cats."

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

Hi Rhiannon,

I agree: stay away from superglue!! I think you should just let Shadow take care of her nail herself. She's a cat and she will do that in any event. Good solution in the placement of the automat!

I hope your DD will get her test results back soon, so that she can start on a treatment.

Yes, it has been a very rough time in LL. So very, very hard.

Wishing you and your family a good weekend. No glue, OK?

Ella & Rusty

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

Hi Rhiannon, good report on Shadow. Interesting on the split nail. I should check Maggie as she off and on has a slight limp, which I will get checked out soon. I do hope they get to the source of DD's illness. Oh the medical bills, I hear ya and deciding on a new insurance. Thanks for visiting us earlier and for the cheerfor the poo. Always good to hear about Shadow.

Re: 11/16 ShadowandRhiannon OTJ

Try not to worry too much about her numbers. Normal is normal and she doesn't know the difference between 50 and 118.

Our Teddi had that happen with her claw but it seemed to really bother her. My vet gave her a little local anesthesia and just took the claw out (did not declaw her...just removed the nail). The claw grew back beautifully and did not split any more as it was growing,
