I am trying to get Shaak into the vet in the morning, over the last week her numbers have gone back up and her chin has swelled up to double size in last two days, I am assuming dental. I will let vet know I don't have money to get anything accomplished and I am praying she takes pity on me and maybe lets me pay it out, otherwise I will know what needs to be done, but won't have anyway to do anything about it. Keep Shaak in your prayers guys.

If she does have an infection she will need to be on meds before they can remove the tooth anyway, so maybe you could treat the infection and do the dental when you can? I am going through the exact same thing as you right now. Skittles also has a bad tooth and he was in remission for a year and the infection made him relapse and I can't afford to get his tooth removed. So luckily the vet gave me some really good meds the last time this happened and from the smell of his breath I can tell the infection is coming back and I have another round of meds to give him. And then I'm hoping that it stays away until my court hearing in October and if I win I will definitely be able to afford to get his dental done and hopefully get him back into remission

thank you for that info. I am hoping it works out tomorrow. Did Skittles have a swollen chin? The only way I can describe it is that Shaak looks like Scar from the Lion King.

oh, the poor baby. It is just awful. I know Shaak must be hurting, she is still eating with no problem but I can just tell she doesn't feel good at all.
Same here, I feel so so guilty that I can't afford to get his tooth done right now. Actually I have a broken tooth and before I get my tooth fixed I will be paying to get skittles tooth fixed.

I am in the same situation but I am putting mine on hold since my boy needed a Vet visit a few weeks ago and a followup earlier this week. The things we do for our fur babies, don't even think twice :cat:

Shaak is down two more lbs. 7 lbs now, vet gave me nutri-cal for her, but it has corn syrup and cane molasses in it so I don't want to give it to her. I am feeding her 4+ cans of FF a day and a ton of pure bites. She also eats about a 1/4 cup of pure pumpkin each day as well. Vet said her sugars are good and her fruc test was normal so he thinks I am doing a smashing job of regulating her diabetes. However, RBC, WBC, PLT, NEU, and MONO are all super low and he wants to rerun the panel after she takes a course of antibiotics for the infection in her chin, which he lanced and said he has no idea what caused the infection. He said any other time with the lows he sees in her bloodwork he would suggest a bone marrow test. Which obviously I can't afford, so now we give her antibiotics and rerun panel in three weeks. He said all her other blood work was normal. So what does this mean.. All I know is I am cherishing every moment I have with Shaak, as I have been doing already and Kirby and I just want to shower her with love from now till the end of time.

What was her t4 when you had it done, Cathie?

I wouldn't give her Nutrical. I think there is something else going on that Nutrical isn't going to fix. And I wouldn't check her bone marrow either.

I also don't agree that her BG is good and I'm very surprised her fruc test was normal. I think you know her BG is not good and she is not well regulated. But, sometimes, it is what it is and I know you have so much to deal with right now that you will just need to let it ride.

I'm so sorry she's not well. :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Maybe ask about getting A/D perscription food. That's pate but very high in calories.

unfortunately I can't afford anything higher priced than the FF. Also, tried to switch up her food back in January and when she wasn't having diarrhea she was refusing to eat the other food. FF that I use is 182 cal per 6oz, so not really a difference in calories anyway. It took two months to get her food back on track and alleviate the diarrhea.

the calories are about the same so it's fine! :D ESp. if she's sensitive to food changes. :)

Hi Cathie, Friskies is actually cheaper than FF. You get a 5.5oz can for like $0.48 at Walmart :)

I can't risk her getting any worse than she already is, I changed her diet before and it caused two months of diarrhea and not eating. Thank you for the idea though.

So what should I do @Marje and Gracie I can't afford another vet visit, as it is I am barely making it buying testing supplies, actually not making it, but doing my best, Braiden has been in Arkansas for the summer, so not having to feed him has helped.

I don't have an answer for you, unfortunately. I use Hemopet.com if I am evenly remotely suspicious about a thyroid number or am seeing symptoms but not the numbers. They can run a feline thyroid panel which is a lot more accurate than what you get from Antech or IDEXX as they use different and better diagnostics. The cost of the test is less than what the vet typically charges but you have to pay the vet to do the blood draw and put it in the tubes and then you mail it.

I don't know if that's her issue or she has an infiltrative intestinal issue like IBD. Anything you need to do to diagnose is going to cost $$.
