What's going on guys. We're doing well here like always, today is the only day I could sleep in and catch up on homework.

I'm about to go out shopping and was thinking of picking up some Levemir but I decided to hold off for now since I was recommended to take Blackie to the vet for bloodwork and testing. I don't know when I can take him in since I work full-time and go to school 3 nights a week. My mother won't be able take him since she has no car and works quite a bit.

Here's a post I made in the Health forum regarding the switch:

Hey dude,
glad you cross posted.
Check back often for more replies ok?

Maybe your vet can fit you in after your work schedule or on a saturday?

Are you still too new at work to ask for a couple hours off early?

Try calling up the vet and tell them your schedule, then explain what you want.
If you are just getting blood drawn for testing, and also the urine drawn, I don't think you need any appt. If the whole process will take like 15min, then maybe they can fit you in some evening or when your schedule gives you some time. The place where I go, I just said can I bring her in and get the draws done - they said sure.

Now, if you want the vet to see Blackie, you would need an appt for sure, but for draws, it's usually just the techs that can do that any old time.

Give it a try and see what they say. They can easily let you know later if the results were OK or if there is something of concern. If you leave a message to tell your vet you are just trying to rule out any health issues before trying a switch to Lev, then your vet knows what you're up to and when you get a call-back, you can discuss what is the best course of action for Blackie.

I figure if you already have the Lantus and it's still good, then why spend more on Lev if it's some kind of infection that a series of a/b can fix up!

Best of luck with Blackie and getting some better numbers!

Yeah I'll see what my schedule is on Saturday. I'm still in training at my job so I'm trying to get as many hours I can but if needed I could leave a little early.

switching to Lev can't hurt. It's still used the same way as Lantus but some cats do better on one or the other. Lots of the higher dose cats use Levemir, and I'm thinking of switching Jazzy next time I refill her insulin.
