Hello guys,
Bella seems to overall be doing well since her diagnosis about a month ago however we have run into a bit of a puzzle that I was hoping you guys might have some advice on. I have another cat who is about 19 and completely blind/deaf (also possibly having some kitty dementia) and she just does not do too great on the wet food only diet that Bella is now on. She throws up and gets lots of loose stool. If I leave dry food out anywhere Bella will most definitely get into it because she adores it. I am worried because my old cat is so used to free feeding that feeding her only twice a day might make her not get enough calories as she only its a small portion at a time. I am also not sure if she would have the vision/awareness to be able to use one of those feeder that only opens for specific cats.... been wracking my brain trying to figure this out. If anyone has any advice let me know. Thanks!

Hi,
I think that at 19 years old and with being deaf and blind and possibly dementia, I would not try and swap her over to wet food. Instead there are a couple of low carb dry foods available that you could try her on and if Bella does get into the dry it will not be terrible.
Can you keep Bella seperate for the main food times so she gets the low carb wet food?
I live in Australia so can’t help you with the names of the low carb dry food. I think one of them is called Dr El.....
Change your subject line to ‘ Low carb dry food alternatives’ to get more eyes on it.
Good luck.

I tried Young Again low carb dry food and while they both liked it they had terrible loose stool. I will look up Dr. El though, thanks!

Have you looked at feeding raw diet.? Or home cooked diet?
Would your 19 yr old eat it?
I've actually been interested in switching all (eight, including my diabetic) cats to a home cooked diet, but am iffy because of the warnings I've seen about cats not getting enough of certain nutrients in a home-cooked diet. Do you have any tried and true recipes or resources I can look into about the subject?

Where do you live?
Most countries have supplements that can be added to muscle meats that made it a complete diet.
I live in Australia so don’t know the brands available overseas but if you start a thread about feeding a home made diet, raw or cooked ( or combination ) you will find out the supplements available in your country.
I have fed my cats a raw diet and before that a cooked home made diet for years and in my opinion it is by far the most superior diet for cats. As long as you feed a nutritionally complete diet.
I use human grade meat always and find it is cheaper than buying canned food.
