I'm new to this forum but would love to hear others experience with their diabetic IBD kitty on budesonide. My senior girl, Kiki, was on prednisolone for years for IBD (mostly vomiting) but last fall was diagnosed with diabetes. The steroid was stopped, insulin started and she quickly went into remission (and off insulin), however, the daily vomiting returned. In November, the vet started budesonide liquid, initially 1mg. daily and now down to 0.5mg. daily. When we try to go to every other day, her vomiting returns. She is back on 1.5u of Lantus insulin twice a day but on the budesonide her blood sugars are getting harder to control, usually over 250-300. She seems to feel good but I would love to get her blood sugars down a little bit. Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

Welcome, sorry no one responded yet, I will tag Wendy and Sienne for you in
mean time if you can tell us a little bit more about Kiki, here is the link
Here is a link helping us to help you link. If you noticed, our members have some basic information about their cat's in their signature. This helps us to not pester you by asking the same questions (your cat's name, insulin type, date of diagnosis, etc.) repeatedly. We also have a link to our spreadsheet in our signature. We are very numbers driven. The spreadsheet is a record of your cat's progress. By linking it in your signature, we can follow along and provide feedback should you need the help.

A cat's blood sugar reaction to budesonide varies, though for most there isn't much impact. My Neko was on budesonide, originally 1 mg, then down to 0.75 mg (I think, been a while). Anyway, it did not impact her blood sugar numbers at all. She was reasonably regulated in spite of it, considering she had a number of other things going on at the same time (kidney disease, heart disease, small cell lymphoma, acromegaly). She didn't have IBD, but her heart could not survive prednisolone, so she got budesonide instead.

If you have a copy of the spreadsheet with your cat's numbers, I might be able to make some suggestions.
