Hey all,

Now that Mottyl's OTJ I'd like to sell some of her insulin - the pharmacist convinced me to buy the five x 3 ml vial package because it was more economical. Which it is, but now I have way more Lantus than I could ever use, and I'd like to sell some of it, even at a loss, just to recoup some of the costs from the last few months. But on the package it says very clearly EXPORTATION PROHIBITED. Has anyone ever sent insulin over the border and had problems or success? Should I just stick to selling it to someone in Canada? I'd hate for it to get confiscated by customs.

I don't think you can send it over the border. I have never tried, but I think that's what I've heard in the past.

I bought my last 5 pens from a real pharmacy in BC and it went through customs just fine. I think they labeled it "health and beauty products". It was packaged with a medical grade ice pack, wrapped in a special "sleeve" to hold the cold in longer, wrapped in paper and put into another box.

(and for $133.95 for the box of 5 Solostar pens instead of the $360+ I would have to pay here, I was thrilled!!)

The important part is going to be keeping it cool, but with the pens, that's not as important. They can do fine for a few days.

Mine were sent with a tracking number so I could watch the entire time it was in the postal system ($19.95 shipping)

I'm not saying it's not possible that it could have a problem with customs, but I know a lot of people buy their medications from the Canadian pharmacy websites and the medications usually arrive fine.

I know there have been a few people who have physically brought insulin across the border. Mailing could be an entirely different situation. You might want to post a note on the Supply Closet board here. I'd also post in Health indicating that you have Lantus to sell and that you're in Canada.
