Hi everyone,
Tribby is doing well. I've increased the s buligarii probiotic to 3 capsules a day. She's still having diarrhea but seems more comfortable and no more explosive diarrhea that I've noticed. She was also at the vet for her B12 shot.
My vet recommended she start Simentra treatment of her CKF Has anyone used it? The pamphlet says it has never been tested with cats that have Diabeties so I'm a bit cautious about starting it.
Sub Q fluids are going well. She seems to not mind it at all. I'm doing between 50-100mls daily.
Where does everyone insert the needle using an IV set and lactate ringers solution? I've been using her shoulder area so far but wondering if there is a more comfortable spot?
Thanks everyone. Hope everyone has a great weekend

I've used it with two cats.
The first cat had large cell lymphoma, kidneys, thyroid, gut motility issues affecting both ends, heart murmur, and was deaf (I think I listed them all). The vet was super excited by the prospect of this new-to-Canada drug. But it made the cat vomit, immediately. We tried drugs to stop the vomiting but they didn't help. Since it was the lymphoma and not the kidneys that was going to be her fate, we decided that all we could do was support the kidneys with SubQ and low phosphorus.

Rover, my diabetic cat, also could not handle Semintra. He would throw up. His numbers spiked as well. I mentioned this to the vet who then squirted a bit of Semintra onto her finger and tasted it. She said it tasted sweet. I asked her to contact the drug company (Boehringer) because they only speak to vets, not owners. I never heard back from the vet about that. Rover was not having stomach issues before the Semintra.

I left both bottles with the vet as their clinic is the main clinic for the no-kill animal shelter, after reassuring them that the drug had not been contaminated in any way. I was very careful with all the medicines. Neither cat was on Semintra long enough to have any effect.

Semintra dosing is based on the weight on the cat. So, the bigger the cat, the bigger (possibly more sugar) the dose. It was going to cost just under $60 per month for my big marshmallow Rover.

Ask your vet to call Boehringer and ask about sugar content. If the drug works for your cat, then it becomes a matter of adjusting insulin accordingly.
