Seeing if Oscar has another disease than Diabetes and question about food?

Hi Team,
Oscar Lantus is up to 6 units twice a day and on the EZ complete with low carb Chicken, Turkey, Rabbit, or Pork. Took him in the Vet and with urine test and Dental exam the Vet didn't see any issues. Going to get some blood work done Friday afternoon and have sent to MSU to hopefully rule out acromegaly and IAA.Vet also suggested with Oscar vomiting on average of once every other day could have some hypo allergic issues and want to rule out IBD. She wants me to try giving him Royal Canin Protein Pea and Duct and also Protein Pea and Venison. I want to help Oscar out but $3.69 a can. Any other options just as good or better cheaper? I am also contemplating switching to Levimir if no other diseases. Hoping, for some odd reason Oscar could be insulin resistant to just Lantus.

At what times do you give him his meals/snacks? Is the vomiting right after he eats?

Most of the puking happens at 3 am. He has a really high metabolism so I feed him at least every 4 hours. I had some issues overnight because I sleep and going 6 or 7 hours may of caused some of the puking issues. I started using an auto feeder. I also started elevating his dishes thinking a taller cat pending over may of had some impact. A few times I noticed the other Cat chased him down the steps and then he puked. Other times Oscar may of ate to quick. His puking has been a combination of puking on an empty stomach, right after eating, and being to active right away. Some of the puking is spit and other times the whole food comes out FWIW. Well knock on wood it has been 62 hours that I could notice since the last puking issue.

Awww, I'm sorry to hear he's having such a hard time. I was thinking maybe it was indigestion from going too long between meals. As a last resort if nothing is found in his bloodwork, you can have a camera sent down his digestive track to rule out any issues.

There are plenty of other options other than the high carb Royal Canin. Peas are high carb. If Oscar has IBD, that means you need to try novel proteins, and a good probiotic. Visbiome is one I give and specifically designed for IBD. This is a good website https://www.ibdkitties.net/ and this one https://www.rawfeedingforibdcats.org/ There are also plenty of off the shelf low carb commercial products that do novel protein, which is basically any protein he's not had before, such as lamb, venison, rabbit, duck, pork, kangaroo, etc. Some manufacturers call them limited ingredient diets. You do have to read the ingredients list, it's amazing how many "rabbit" products have chicken in them. As one example.

Another option for food is to make your own. I got the EZComplete premix (available here) and added it to raw meat I got at the exotic meat butcher near me. Neko got to sample elk, buffalo, and a few other really novel proteins. Way cheaper than the canned junk from the vet. If you are lucky, some of the cheaper novel proteins will work.
