Sedation

Molly has an appointment at the vet tomorrow for ongoing issues. Chances are she will need to be sedated if they have to run any extensive tests on her. Is there anything I should be worried about with her blood sugars? She receives insulin at 10 and 10 and her appointment is at 10:30.

I hope others will answer because there are many here who have had their FD kitty sedated for dentistry, etc. Unfortunately I have no experience to share.
 
Thanks so much Kris. Sadly, I'm pretty sure this is the only way they'll get to do tests on her as she's a pretty high strung kitty at the vets.
 
With a dental, it's full anaesthesia and because kitty usually has to fast for some period of time and will be out for awhile, the dose of insulin needs to be adjusted accordingly depending on timing of shots and procedure. I have an old guy who has needed sedation for in office exams and they used a short acting sedative and there was no fasting etc. involved. I'd call the vet's office just to be sure but I don't think you need to alter your routine.

Sorry.....I did respond and then realized that you hadn't posted in the lantus/lev forum. I don't know what insulin you are using (or what dosage) and I'm only familiar with lantus!

Sorry she's on Lantus 2.50 units twice daily. But I've noticed the last two times she's been stressed her sugars have lowered. We had fireworks last night and she went from 6.3 to 5.1 after the fireworks. The other day we took her to the emergency clinic and she dropped to 3.1. Needless to say I skipped her dose last night and she's paying the price for it this morning but I was scared to dose her as I didn't know if she would drop lower on me overnight. Was just as well I had dosed her as I was awake most of the night anyway.
 
I once had a hard to fondle cat that needed sedation to cut her tummy matts. She wouldn't let me brush her tummy. They gave her a shot of something I think. She wasn't diabetic but I didn't ever fast her.

Looking at your ss though I don't know how to convert from the world numbers it like Molly earned a few reductions you haven't taken and definitely after that 3.1.
 
I too have a kitty that goes lower with stress!
I have experience with anesthesia but not with a sedative. You could always take your testing supplies with you and test her before and after the sedation? My concern would be if she doesn't want to eat after the sedation but like I said, I have no experience with it so perhaps ask your vet?
On another note, I see you are in Canada! I am in London Ontario!

That's what I'll do then as I took them with me to her last appointment as I shot her at a lower pre shot. Just gave her a couple of luv treats and she was fine. Normally she would have had a snack after her breakfast around that time. I'm in St. John's, NL

The 3.1 was not a huge concern as she bounced back from it and she might not have even dropped that low had she been home. In Canada we worry when it's below 2.7

My only regret is I didn't dose her last night :(
