Hi Folks!

Lots of stuff happening in our lives and I apologize for not updating sooner. Scooter is still trying to get carbs anyway he can. He has become a thief! Any thing is game to him. So I did have him tested for hypothyroidism and he is negative. I have started to feed him low carb 5 times a day now to no avail. I am thinking low carb crunchy treats is the next idea. I am at the ranch all week and Scooter is with me so he has no access to carbs here.

Anyway if you have ideas folks I would love to hear them.

As always from the bottom of my heart thank you for always being here for me to help Scooter!

Linda

Hi Linda! So great that Scooter is doing so well! And he got to go to the ranch with you-- how cool is that?!

Hey, I just wanted to say that I think nearly ALL CATS who are healthy want to eat ALL OF THE TIME! Well, that has been my experience with my rescue, anyway. They are following me around 24/7 for food. If I walk into the kitchen it's like a swarm of bees. When I open the pantry door, a few of them jump on top their food bin.

If I had more time I would play with them a lot more than I do and I think that would help a lot. I have one suggestion. Have you ever heard of this toy called a Frolicat Laser? I have this one, and it helps relieve them of their craving of food. I think it might be because they are getting bored that they want more food. I liked this Frolicat better than the bigger one. I bought the bigger one and my cats would just sit on it and stare into it which was very bad.

Linda:

What about one of those "treat" balls? (It's a ball that has 2 holes in it so the cat has to play with it in order to get the treats or food out of it. If you were to use a freeze dried treat or some of the Young Again Zero Carb food, hat might keep Scooter occupied with getting food.

I LOVE Sienna's idea!! There are couple different types of those "food treat" toys that you could try out with him. Cats do get bored of their toys and you have to hide one of them for a few months and then bring it out to them again. It's like a new toy all over again!! :-D

oh scooter. hot dog buns? really? couldn't you at least have found some carbs worth eating, like cookies and ice cream?

i love the idea of the food ball. i need one of those too. my kittens, who are now 1, are exactly like you're describing scooter. they get up on the counters and look for food all the time. i've kept them on the lean side and they always want to eat. it's pathetic. but i'm not going to feed them enough to get fat. i'd just hold your own on the total. as long as he's at a healthy weight, just keep feeding him a volume that will support him holding steady.

you could check the list to look for a lower calorie low carb cat food so they can have more volume, i suppose. there was someone, but i don't recall who, who used to add cooked green beans to the cat food to add bulk without many calories. i don't know if that's a good idea or not, but for what it's worth, i'll mention it so you can explore it if you're interested.

nice to see a Scooter condo and you, linda! :YMHUG:

Julie! That is my Vets idea to add green beans and carrots as well. I will try that next week.

Tina! I have never been one for lasers but I might just try this one. Every night we play with the kitties before bed with different toys and we do have to change them out.

Sienne! I have one of those kitty balls. (somewhere) LOL I think I will try the freeze dried treats in it. The problem of course will be keeping it from the other kitties.

I have also noticed the little kittens are all over the counters and they were not before the wet food came into our lives. Scooter went after the toaster to get bagels that were cooking and burnt his whiskers a bit. I hope he learned.

These are all great ideas. Thank you all so much!

PS: the ranch is not mine. I just have the honor of being the only person my friend trusts with her horses and dogs and kitties when she is away. A lot of work but great serenity.

Linda

Lovely to see you and Scooter, Linda. Nice to know he hasn't changed and is still looking for carbs. This is, of course, to keep you on your toes! ;-)

The treat ball is a great idea. I know the one we have keeps my two Abys entertained for quite a while (at least until it's empty).

Enjoy your serenity and keep in touch, please!
