Well we went to a new vet today to get a check up. They said both of the girls have no bacteria (yay!) but are slightly inflamed. I'm giving an anti inflammatory for the next 3 days and he said to call next week to update him on how they are. He said if they were acting sick, he might be able to advise over the phone some now that he's seen them to avoid stress of bringing them in. I really liked this new vet...and much cheaper than the old one too!

Naturally, he recommended a urinary diet..hills, royal canin, or purina. I had actually considered Purina before since I know it's got good phosphorus levels but I think the carbs are higher...and even though they are civvies, I try to keep low carb!

He thinks some of this might be stress...not sure how true that is or not, but we shall see.

He did say that they had very dilute urine which could be a sign of renal disease but he checked bloodwork and said kidney values are great...and suggested bloodwork once a year to check on it.

Let's all hope this is the end of sickness for a bit...I need a break!

Thanks for all your good vines and thoughts and help!

The one thread I sent you about convenia talked most UTI being treated with antibiotics needlessly because a greater % of them are caused by inflammation, not bacteria. So maybe your new vet is on to something.

Thanks all! In good news, Tigress was delighted with the anti inflammatory (and the pill pocket it came in). Elektra was horrified...so she isn't getting hers tonight. With luck tomorrow she will accept it. She literally will not take anything from me now...not even chicken. Send some take your meds vines if you all would!

Going to try to pick up a pheromone diffuser tomorrow...hoping some reduction of any stress they may be feeling will help too.

Sending my best "take-your-meds, Elektra" vibes your way! So glad you've found a good vet, too, Rachel.
Will keep my fingers & toes crossed that the girls are about to give you that much-needed break from the worries they've been causing their mom lately!:bighug:

Glad to hear you like the vet. Good pilling vibes for Elektra. Does she like cheese? Sometimes a small piece of soft cheese that she gulps?

Ha! She took the pill. I tried cheese and lunch meat, but she ran from me...didn't matter what I offered. This afternoon, I got a pheromone diffuser and plugged it in. I also got a different flavor of pill pocket. I tried giving it to her upstairs and leaving her alone, but she ignored it. Later, she was downstairs and I gave out chicken treats to all cats. I went over to her, sat a bit away, and tossed a few chicken treats to her...and rolled the pill pocket over too. After a minute or two, she ate a chicken treat...then started searching around for more. Encountered the pill pocket, and ate it! Vouila! So...I basically tricked her. No idea if it was the diffuser, the new flavor, or what. Earlier she wouldn't even take chicken treats from me, which does lead me to think it might be the diffuser...but we'll see. Now if I can get her to take them for just 2 more days...

Tigress, naturally, begged for more than just the one. At least someone around here takes meds easily!
