Hi all,

I hope everyone is well in Lantus Land.

Savannah has been doing pretty well being OTJ. About a few days ago my husband and I noticed she seemed "blah". I tested her sugar that evening and found she was 296!!! Four days prior to that when I was just spot-checking she was 78. I'm not sure what happened. I decided to give her .20u. I let her eat when she feels like it. Last night she seemed to climb back up, but it was hard to tell if it was b/c she was eating every couple of hours or if her blood sugar was increasing, so I gave .20 just in case. Right now she is 143 after she ate. Should I shoot this morning, or should I wait and not feed her for three hours to see where this goes?

Maybe do the food test to see if her numbers come back down.

I'd also get in to see your vet. There could be dental issues or some other infection brewing that are causing the elevated numbers. An exam and labs will let you know. You may want to make sure a spec fPLI is included in case you're seeing the early signs of pancreatitis. No matter what you do, if Savannah has something else going on, you'll be fighting with the numbers. Best to get the basics ruled out and then you will know for sure what you're dealing with.

I will try the food test and see what happens.

Once I gave her the insulin after the high yellow number she was back to her old self within 12 hours. She's been that way since, eating & playing has resumed. It may very well be a dental issue too, or maybe she has that thiamine deficiency since the only thing we feed her is Wellness. I need to find another food in the meantime. I thought maybe it was the start of a UTI since I can't clean the litter box my husband has been doing it, and he just cleans it once a day, where I always cleaned it every time I heard her in there. Let's just say she's not too happy about her new "staff".

No advice here, but I hope you get it figured out soon and that all is well with savannah .. hopefully it's just the wellness food?

Oh well she climbed back up after 2 1/2 hours...176. I decided to give her .20. Still acting normal. Guess I'll make a vet appointment to rule out other things. I think I can wait until Monday/Tuesday since she is behaving normal.

aw, Savannah...we love to see you, but not for this reason!

hope this clears quickly...and you made me laugh with the "staff" comment...
