I found skinless, boneless sardines, packed in water and low sodium. They're delicious and I'm wondering if they would be any good as a treat for my sweet kitty.

Here's the nutrition info from the packaging:

Serving size, 1 can 69g, drained.

Calories: 120
Fat from calories: 60
Total fat 6g
Saturated fat 2g
Trans fat 0g
Cholesterol 30mg
Sodium 45mg
total carb. 0g
Dietary fiber 0g
Sugars 0g
Protein 15g

Do these seem safe for my sweet kitty?

It's a lot of salt and cholesterol but sounds like a great treat to me as long as kitty is only getting a little at a time for a treat. I would give it or eat it for that matter.

Oh, they are delicious. I had no idea that cholesterol was an issue for cats? It does seem like a lot of salt but I drain them AND rinse them with cool water to remove even more salt. I saw 0g of carbs and all the protein and thought they would be a good treat for my sweet kitty, Simone'.

I don't know that cats have an issue with cholesterol either but they sound yummy. I really don't think they'd be a problem if they're just treats. You're not giving more than one or two at a time anyway and if you rinse them it should be fine. I bet Racci would love that too.

On the cholesterol. Cats can become hyper-cholesterol, both Simba and Gustav, got that. However the effects of high cholesterol in cats, seem to be a little different than in humans. But a few sardines every now and then isn't that much of a problem.

When Civvie Slappy got so sick in July, I tried the tuna - no way - but those sardines were a hit. That was all she would eat for a couple of weeks. Would have been nice to have a better quailty.
But, if given ever so often, I would think it would be just fine. I still give my girls the whiskas purrfecly fish, I think it is called. Teaspoon or 2, for a treat.
