AMPS HI SHOT 2.5U

Sam goes to the vet at 2 today.

+6 439 at the vet's office.

PMPS HI shot 2.5U

She did an end run around me and sold Charlie 6 cans of Hills M/D. I knew I should have gone. I am sending 5 cans back to the vet office. Did she not hear me? That is why I left the last vet, it was over food. The HIll's M/D has corn starch in it. I'm pissed at them both. Charlie for buying it and the vet for selling it to him. cat(2)_steam

She did recommend upping his dose to 2.75 which will be a ***** to pull into the syringe. But, I'll do it. She can't understand why he can't get regulated saying it was the food we were feeding. Sam has gained another half a pound and does look better, His hair coat is better, he's more active and it's not because the food is missing something! Huh! So, I will start the higher dose tomorrow when there is someone home to watch him and we aren't going right to bed after his shot. She still thinks he may have an infection of some sort. I don't know what to think.

Good luck at the vet today. I noticed on your spreadsheet that he is really unhappy with the pokes. If you want some suggestions that might help, tell us exactly what you do in the process. We might have some ideas?

To get a reading off Sammy, first we warm up his ear, we switch when it looks like one is getting a bit sore, put a cotton ball in the ear to keep from pricking our own selves, the a quick stick. He usually bleeds pretty quick. We only have to hit him again occasionally. He never used to protest so much but he's also been pulling away and making his ear really bleed. Like I said he growls all the time now and he growls when he feels the needle going in. He never used to. could be cause he's feeling better. So, if anyone has any ideas, I'd be sure to try them out.

Good for you sending the food back! Stay strong!!! :thumbup

Good luck with the new dose tomorrow. Hopefully you will get some improvement with it.

Usually the treats do the trick after the poke. When you say he growls at the needle, is that the shot or the lancet when you poke?

How was the vet visit?

I need to find a treat he likes. He does tend to like turkey lunchmeat and I usually feed him right after his shot. He hates the low carb commercial treats so I need to find him something!

I am not letting my husband take Sam to the vet any more. He always caves in with the food thing. Sheesh! He should have known better. He told her that he would get yelled at and she told him to have me call her. Well, I am calling her tomorrow and she will hear what I think. She did say that we didn't need to test for ketones with BG levels in the mid 300s. Her exact words on a sheet of paper she had Charlie give me. Increase insulin and re-check him in 7-10 days, call if BG levels drop significantly and we are nearing an insulin lever that is getting to high for Sam's weight. If he can't get regulated we need to consider rechecking UA +/- bloodwork to find cause of insulin resistance. Sam did gain half a pound from his last visit one1/28/11.

I do disagree with the ketone advice. We have seen cats with ketones who have bg levels in the 200s.

What kind of infection does she think he has?

Frustrating about the food. You can return it.

Glad you are increasing. 2.75 is hard to gauge, but if it is nearer to 3, it won't hurt.

Good for you for standing your ground. And just remind yourself, you're not in this alone because we're here with you.
