Just dropped him off for his dental. I told them no covenia and no metacam, which was fine with them. They never use metacam on cats anyway but they did say they used covenia and had great success with it, never any instances of allergic reactions, but if I didn't want it, that would go on my chart. I didn't get the impression they were going to give it to Sam anyway. They gave me a pager too, just in case they needed to get a hold of me and couldn't reach me on my cell.

Now I just have to remind myself to breathe until they call me that he's out of anesthesia.

Vet called to say Sam needs at least one tooth pulled and one root extracted, which I approved. He actually needs two roots on the other side extracted, but they don't want to do that much in one day. Poor guy. I hope this makes a difference! At least he'll feel better after it's done. Vet said the tooth was probably giving him some pain.

Poor baby! I am sorry to hear that he needs that
but thank goodness he is doing well
Hang in there

One of my cats had all but 3 teeth pulled at one time...ouch! Just to reassure you---she did great and eats everything!

Maybe the pain was increasing Sams bg--maybe the dental and extraction will help!

I think the vet tech who called said something about an infection too. That could definitely raise bg's too, right?

Yay! He's out of anesthesia and waking up fine. Although the vet tech said he was a little grumpy. But then, who wouldn't be? He had one tooth pulled and FIVE roots extracted. My poor, sweet boy. And he has to go back for roots on the other side at some point. All in all, I'm feeling good about the day and hoping this brings us some positive things in the future.

Me too! You would think it would make a difference. He must have been in pain, and pain can certainly cause stress and raise bg levels. Hope things look up when he gets home and settles back in.

Poor Sam. Give him hugs from all of us :)
Hopefully he’ll feel better now and get some better numbers for you.
Good vibes still comin’ your way!

As soon as I got him home and opened the carrier, he made a bee line for the food bowls! I gave him some homemade chicken broth (water the chicken I give him is poached in) with a few pieces of chicken in it. He put that down pretty fast. He doesn't seem to know he's in recovery. And he's VERY lovey. I'm so happy to have him home and on the mend. He goes back Friday for a quick check of the sutures.

I just wish I didn't have to get up at 1 am to give him his pain meds, but for my babies, anything!

Thanks for all the well wishes and support. Means a lot.

So glad Sam is home and doing well. Paws crossed the extractions help with the pain and you see some better #'s. Give Sam some extra hugs for being such a trooper.

Glad Sam is home and seems to be feeling relatively well after the dental.
He must feel ok if his appetite was so good with a sore mouth.
Here's hoping Sam will get better numbers after all his dental work is done.
big hugs to Sam!
