Rusty may be OTJ?

i haven't been here in a bit, just been working testing etc. I was also slacking on updating Rusty's spreadsheet, but I was keeping up with everything on paper. I just now brought his spreadsheet up to date. Things have been hectic here, with my constant work schedule, and we also had the horrible tornados that thankfully did little damage to our house, but left us without power for 6 days.
Anyways, back to Rusty, the last injection that I gave him was .5 on 4/30, and his numbers have been good, but last night when i got in from work he was at 78, then I fed him and tested one hour after he ate and he was up to 91.
I am still feeding friskies classic pate, and he has acted normal around me, but when i called home tonight, DH said he had been under our bed all evening and wouldnt come out. But by the time i got in he was waiting at the door as usual and has been in here with me ever since. So I was just wanting someone more familiar with all of this to look at his SS and give me some guidance please.

I also want to thank everyone here for being a constant source of support and information for everyone that finds themselves here!

Those greens look nice! Congrats! I think I would get a curve in this weekend, seeing how food influences his numbers. OTJ kitties generally run between 40-110 without insulin, staying in double digits most of the time. He is on the upper end of that range but still in double digits.

You are very close. If he is down in the 50-60 range most of the day, then those 90s are fine. If he is in the triple digits generally during the day, then you might consider helping him out. One thing you can easily do is to lower the carb amount and see if that makes a difference. If he is eating 8% carbs, for example, try some 3-5% carbs to see if it impacts the numbers downward. (Avoid seafood more than twice a week or so.)

Those greens lately tell me that he may be OTJ. I am surprised he brought himself down from those 200s. I think if he has another week of these kind of numbers, then you can call it. A week or so ago numbers - I would have supported with a 0.1 or 0.25u dose, but it is absolutely wonderful that you are seeing green now!!!

I'd say a couple times during the day would be fine. Try before eating and then 45 minutes or so after to see if food brings his numbers down. Then maybe mid cycle.

Will be interesting info for you to have.

The #s look great! If he is bringing himself down to the greens now that is really awesome. I would probably keep checking PSs for another week or two to be sure he is staying in the greens.

Glad to hear you weathered the tornados without too much damage. 6 days w/o power  that's hard to imagine!!!

he is an amazing kitty! the storms were horrible, i have never seen destruction like that in "real life", it looks like a bomb went off. I didnt really even complain about the power for the 1st few days because we had been so fortunate to have not received any damage. I sure was happy when the power came back on, and I was finally able to sleep because all of the nights when the power was out were sooooo quiet and I could hear our wall clock ticking and it was driving me crazy! I finally started taking my mp3 player to bed with me just for some noise. I realized how much we take for granted!

Ok i checked him several times yesterday. He did well and never went over 88! is it ok to now check him every other day or what is our next step? I have been giving him the methylb tablets, do I need to continue with that? one of his back legs is still kind of halfway down to being on his hocks, but the other back foot is back up where it is supposed to be.

thanks everyone for your help!

This sounds good, Michelle. Generally we say to keep testing for 2 weeks after you have stopped insulin to make sure they are down in that double digit range. Not sure where you are in the process. Then test every other day or so, then once a week, etc. Anytime you see any signs that are worrying, do a test.

Congrats! This is great news!

Congrats!
I have nothing to offer here. Just stopped by to read what others had to say because I was wondering the same thing for my Callie Mae. She hasn't received any insulin for 5 days today and I have watched her numbers go from the low 100's down to the beautiful double digit greens!
Sounds like we will both be doing the OTJ dance soon!
I wasn't going to start my own thread on the subject after reading yours, but I can't help myself.
I would not have a success story to tell without these wonderful folks, so I think as much attention that can be grabbed is worthy!

Go, Rusty, Go!!!

Hurrah for both of you. Michelle, be sure to include your story in the remission thread at the top of the page. We keep track and celebrate. The same for Callie Mae, when she reaches that two week mark. What great news!

Yay...so glad to hear Rusty is doing so well! I love success stories and sounds like we'll have another one to add to recent remissions soon.
