The vet was really happy that I was well read and prepared for his appointment- thank you board!!!!!

He didn't lose any more weight since his last visit, so that is really good- he is still only eating 1/4 cup of dry food a day though. His fructosamine was 694 (last check on 9/25 he was 670). His glucose +5 was 413 on my meter and 40 points higher on the vet meter. At least now I have a check on how far off my meter is :-)
We are increasing his Prozinc to 2 units 2 X's a day (up from 1 unit 2 X's a day) because he is still really high. I hope that this goes well. Fingers crossed that this helps bring him down a bit, I miss my playful kitty!

Not a precise estimate. Keep in mind all glucometers in the US can be +/- 20% from what a lab might get.
Also know that human glucometers may read 30 to 40% lower than an AlphaTrak meter.
So a single comparison of your meter to the vet's meter isn't going to give you an adjustment factor for the tests you get.

Use the numbers you get as is. Examine them for general trends.glucometers - human or pet - are not intended to replace lab tests.

Yes, unfortunately I can't get him on canned food at all. He is very stubborn and with as little as he is eating right now, I feel that I can't push the issue too much or he won't eat at all...

I forgot that the meter is a percentage- thanks! I definitely don't intend on replacing my vet with my home meter either, he has another appointment in two weeks :-)

I would definitely start on the low carb wet food or a low carb dry food if you have not already made the switch. I saw a BIG change in my cat's water intake and food intake within 48 hours of starting her on Fancy Feast wet food (and that was before she ever started insulin). Just make sure to check his BG levels often in those first few days to make sure he isn't getting to low with the new food.
