Last night at 11 PM (+4) Ruby was at 108. This morning, 6 hours later she was at 378. Is that a crazy jump?
(These are AlphaTrak numbers)

I have a "secret" stash of food for our other cat but we were sure it was in place Ruby couldn't get to. Maybe she found it overnight and had a midnight snack.

108 is bad? I thought it was in the target range. She seemed to do so darn well yesterday (getting there anyway) I was a bit bummed by the high number this morning.

No 108 is beautiful and what you want to see but sometimes early on in the dance their liver can panic from the nicer numbers that they havn't seen for a while and will dump sugar to compensate. We don't want to over react to a bouncy number and shoot more insulin into it because it will wear off by itself.

If you look back at the 11th when you got the green surf and then she went pink for a few cycles, that was probably the same thing, it sometimes takes a few cycles for that to wear off.

You're doing a great job and getting very nice numbers.

The 108 last night was great! :-D

When our kitties are used to running BGs in higher numbers, the lower numbers can trigger the liver to dump sugars as a precaution - being unused to having lower BGs it is trying to "save" the kitty from too low numbers. When our kitties get better regulated, their bodies adjust, recognizing the lower BGs as good numbers and the liver won't dump like it does in the beginning. That's why it's called a bounce, when the liver dumps (and causes high numbers).

Gotcha. That makes a little more sense.

I'm still in that frustrated stage, not understanding how this all works.

That is totally understandable! :-D

And when you do get comfortable, understanding it a bit better, don't be surprised if Ruby throws you a curve ball to keep you on your toes. :-D Kitties are good at that!

108 Great number~ hurray for Ruby....now we must wait and see if that bounce will fix itself nailbite_smile

Of course I have to be at the office until this evening so I won't know until then. I did retest her right before I left the house (+1.5 after her shot) and she was down a tiny bit to 350.

I just tested her...before eating she's 186 (alphatrak). The vet has said to not shoot under 200 but she's going to go up when's she's done eating.
Do I not shoot or do I so a partial shoot?

Yes, eating will raise her BG but I'm not so sure I'd give insulin. Doesn't the AlpaTrak note higher BGs than human meters? Where 40-50 on human is 70-80 on Alpa? If that's the case, on a human meter she's test about 150-160ish. If I were to give insulin, I'd probably do half the normal dose.

Can you wait to test again before eating in another 20 to see where she might be headed and others can chime in?

Yes, the Alpha runs high. I called the vet and they said to go ahead as long as she eats all of her dinner in a timely manner (as opposed to over the course of 2 hours like it sometimes takes her).
I gave it to her, but not a full dose.
